He has been mentioned as a big time MVP candidate this year with his team being 7-0.

I've seen people on here say they believe he will be behind only Rodgers over the next few years when it comes to NFC QBs. (LMAO)

High praise going on here. But, when I see him play he overthrows 50% of the time and lacks the mechanics I see from the best QBs in this league. I see a guy that is slightly above average as a QB, but can make enough plays with his legs to trick people into believing he is anywhere near top tier. He has stayed as basically the exact same player since entering this league and the numbers back this up.

So by looking at these stats Newton is having the highest Int% percentage of his career, lowest completion % of his career and the lowest passer rating of his career. All of these numbers are, IMO, extremely mediocre and it's laughable that people want to push this guy as some elite QB so bad. He's in his 5th season and hasn't improved at the most important aspect of being a QB, passing the ball.

But Coco, he runs the ball too!!! LOL you Saintard!!!

Alright. They are on par with his usual stats there, big deal.

Let's face it; he is what he is. He's an amazing athlete built like a tank, but he's nowhere near being a top QB in this league and it's time we stop pretending that he is. He is carried by a great defense, which is where the success of the Panthers has stemmed from over the last few years.

Cam is a better player than Kaep, but I do find this hilarious.

Floor is yours Cam lovers, let's hear it. Give me legitimate reasons why I should believe he is an MVP candidate, and why he will be the 2nd best QB in the NFC over the next 3-5 years.

He carries a putrid offense filled with below average NFL talent.

No, I don't think he's overrated.

I usually don't make these kind of posts, but you're obsessed beyond any measure of normal. I have yet to see you go a day without trying to slam Cam Newton on this board.

We get it, you hate him. You think he's overrated. This kind of obsession is starting to rival ATPB days though, and it's as equally sad as it is hilarious.

Nice write-up, and it's very hard to disagree with you.

I thought anyone who didn't agree that Cam is the best QB ever was just a butthurt LSU fan because he beat us by 7pts one time 5 years ago?

I certainly don't think he is a MVP candidate but I think what he gives you on the ground especially on short yardage situations and in the endzone is very underrated.

This thread is ridiculous. Cam has absolutely no receivers at all. Ive seen Ted Ginn drop a few wide open passes this season already that would have gone for touchdowns. He moves the ball and controls the clock. He does whats needed to win games.

Why is that someone always has to accuse people with whom you disagree as being "lovers" or whatever nonsense, it undermines your argument as it makes it seem like you are just an irrational hater.

As to him being an MVP candidate, he is the QB on a 7-0 team that really doesn't have any other stars, not saying he will or should win, but if you don't see why he at least gets mentioned, then i don't know what to tell you.

As far as him being 2nd best to Rodgers over the next few year in the NFC, i never really thought about it, but that could just be by default. Looking around the NFC, you have older guys that will be gone by then most likly (Brees, Romo, Palmer, Eli?) and some young up comers like Winston and Bridgewater, the only other youngish guys still with some of their prime left besides Newton are Ryan and Stafford and then a bunch of garbage.

Stop comparing Colin Kaepernick's stats to Cam Newton's
The Wall Street Journal felt the stats were close enough to make a story out of it with a tagline reading, "the statistics of the two quarterbacks are nearly identical—but only one lost his job this week." Yes, it's true. One did lose his job this week—and for good reason.

Kaepernick was benched for Blaine Gabbert because he simply was not getting the job done. In the eight games Kaepernick has started this season, he has thrown touchdowns in only three of them. In those three games, Kaepernick had two touchdowns each, but only one came before the second half and four of the six came in the fourth quarter.

My point is, most of Kaepernick's scores came late when the game was already out of reach and the team was basically throwing the ball every play.

As for Newton's numbers, he doesn't have all-world stats for a couple of reasons. The main reason is the Panthers are built to run the football. Carolina currently ranks No. 1 in rushing yards per game (San Francisco is 18th). Also, Newton is throwing to arguably the worst receiving corps in the NFL.

After losing Kelvin Benjamin for the season, Carolina has had Ted Ginn, Corey Brown and Jerricho Cotchery combine for 44 receptions, 626 yards and six touchdowns. There are 11 receivers with more receptions and yards than Carolina's top three receivers combined and four with more touchdowns as well.

Also missing from the chart is Newton's four rushing touchdowns compared to Kaepernick's one. That gives Newton 15 total touchdowns compared to Kaepernick's seven — more than double. The chart also didn't point out that Newton has played in one less game than Kaepernick, which makes the numbers extremely skewed since it's just comparing the cumulative season stats.

I realize it's a bit hypocritical to tell you not to pay attention to stats, and then defend myself with stats, but you have to look at the right numbers. You can't just compare total season stats and say two quarterbacks are identical just because their quarterback ratings kind of look the same.

Newton is being considered as an MVP candidate because he's the quarterback of an undefeated team and has done enough to warrant being in the discussion. No one is saying he's the leading candidate, but you can't dismiss his impact for Carolina.

Did Kaepernick deserve to be benched? That's another discussion. But saying he's played the same as Newton this year is just lazy.
