If LSU can get past the 2nd level, can anyone on Bama tackle Fournette?

They have a great d line and some huge, run stuffing linebackers, but they essentially play with all corners. Their safeties are not big guys and are strong in coverage, but if the run support comes down to them, I think they will be in trouble. Ragland is a hound and the supporting cast at linebacker is also very good. You have to stretch those big guys out and make them cover the field laterally at times.

Time , it tames time to spread , Bama will be in the backfield about the time the runner gets the ball we have to pass the short passes to get in the d backfield Can we do that ?? If not we will have a long night

You do understand we have the best OL in the SEC?

They are very good, and we are playing on their home field, with all that implies. But this Bama team is not up to the same caliber as some of their recent ones. We are as good as they are at most positions, and better at some.

ETA: I get really tired of the assumption that Bama is ten feet tall. If we play well, we will beat them. We don't have to do anything special, or play over our heads. Just execute the way we're capable of doing, and minimize the errors.

When you say "2nd level" do you just mean the dline? Or are you including their all American linebackers?

Either way, the answer is yes. Just like the 2nd level of western Kentucky was able to tackle him all night

Western Kentucky did the best job of anyone stopping Fournette. The wet field helped them, too, as they filled every gap with crashing 9-10 guys into our line and LF had no where to cut to. The wet field allowed them to use their momentum to clog the running lanes and made it harder for LF to cut as quickly.

Still, he had 150 yards and Harris threw over the top all game.

Western Kentucky schemed well and I imagine that Alabama will have a similar plan. They will run blitz more hoping to affect LSU's PA passing game too. If they can get pressure on Harris from a run defense set up with 8-9 guys in the box, it will be a long night.

Saban has a plan. We just need to exploit it. This is where a screen game could come in handy.

THIS.

I understand that public perception of future events is skewed by past performance, but the overestimation of this Bama team is getting comical.

They're good. But they're not as good as past Bama teams.

We just need to play like we've been playing the last few games and we'll win it.

LOL.
For a sec, I thought I was on a gump board.
Your reverence for them is disturbing.

Agreed, but a convincing win will make us look like world beaters with all of the hype.

No different than Auburn DB's seeing a Freightliner on the grill coming full steam at them.

I mean this: when LSU blocks up the dline and Fournette hits the gap and cuts past the group of lbs, can anyone in the secondary tackle him? Landon Collins was the MVP in that game last year....I hate to admit that, but he was great in run support against us. They don't have a hard hitting safety like that. They moved 2 corners to start safety this year.

Just look at the stellar plays that Harris has achieved on 3rd and long. LSU will be fine if they simply continue the level of play they've shown already and if they avoid turnovers and special teams breakdowns

Na, we moved one corner to safety, which is his natural position. We really only put him at DB as a freshman because he was that good at covering and tackling.

He lost some speed last year after his ACL tear, so we moved him to safety where he has been having an All-American year.

That's because Bama is mysteriously stronger than teams they play. Saban, after begging Moffet to come to Bama, must have found the right guy as strength coach. Notice how easy a guy 20 pounds lighter can handle a guy 20 heavier. They manhandle teams. No finesse just brute force.

Well that because since he couldn't get Moffet he went and hired a Moffet disciple Scott Cochran.

I noticed that on outside runs, Fournette was having to slow down a lot or was taking stutter steps before making cuts. He never slipped that I saw, but he might have been overly cautious about his traction.
