Lot of F150 drivers on the OB. If you paid $301-499 for a plug change you get $20. Over $500 you get more based on a formula.

LINK

2004-2008 Ford F-150 trucks
2005-2008 Ford Expeditions
2005-2008 Lincoln Navigators
2006-2008 Lincoln Mark LTs
2005-2008 Ford Super Duty trucks (F-250 and F-350)

Example 2: Class Member Pays At Least $500 and Less Than $1,000 to Replace 8 Spark Plugs - If a Class Member paid at least $500 and less than $1,000 for eight replaced plugs, Ford will reimburse the Class Member $5.00 per replaced plug plus 50% of the actual amount paid that is in excess of $500 (or $5.00 per replaced plug plus 50% of the amount in excess of $62.50 per replaced plug). For example, if a Class Member pays $850 to replace eight plugs ($106.25 per replaced plug), that Class Member (upon submission of a properly documented claim) would be entitled to $215.

man, I haven't had spark plugs changed in a vehicle in decades...electronic ignition and fuel injection stopped that shite cold.

Thanks for the info. I had to have mine done. Think mine was a little over $500.

those spark plus are nuts.
What a rip off. Why would they make such a brittle plug?

Yup, those class action attorneys clean up. They get like 50-80% of the settlement

I paid $80 for a broken plug removal tool, plus the cost of plugs. I got all mine out without breaking one, and resold the tool later.

Not that it matters, but this really wasn't limited to f150s.

I had a mustang with that 4.6l motor and broke a spark plug. Thing sucked.

Attorney's fees are capped at $5.2 million to share between the co-counsels, per the agreement for this class action.

Regardless... this was a terrible design flaw in what was otherwise a pretty solid motor. I just submitted a claim where the dealership corn-holed me for $2,700 to replace 8 plugs... that's not including the charges for replacing the coils.

I haven't lost my shite like that in over 25 years. I truly embarrassed myself with how I badly I acted that day.

But in my opinion, the ford dealer should have been more embarrassed for raping me like that without even offering some KY.

I want an explanation of this, how did a plug change turn into a $2700 bill, and how the hell did they try to justify that cost?

Before Lisle/Ford invented the broken spark plug extraction tool. Ford would charge to remove the head(s) to remove the broken plug(s). Removing the head on a Ford truck is no easy task.

First of all from an Aggie - Beat the Hell Outta Alabama!

I came across this thread while researching the settlement mentioned above, and thought I would share my experience...

I have 2007 F250 with 5.4L 3V. I have owned the truck since it had 21,000 miles. It now has 108,000. This is the one vehicle that I have owned that I have serviced it 100% by the owners manual and I had all service performed at Ford Dealerships throughout Texas. When I hit 100K I told the dealership to change the spark plugs - because thats what the owners manual suggested. I was aware of the problem with spark plugs breaking and at the advice of my neighbor (who happens to be a 25 year certified ASE master tech) I chose to have the dealer do the work. The dealer quoted me $600. Two weeks later they still had my truck and tried to charge me $1700. I fought them and even called Ford directly. They told me that two plugs broke off in the head and that they had to order a extra special tool (in addition to the special tool mentioned in above post) and that would have to remove the head. After a long fight finally they reduced the charge to $770. I contacted the folks from the new settlement and they confirmed that I would be eligible for $175. BUT I would be giving up all rights to future damages. I have already had one of the "new" spark plugs fail, and I repaired it myself this time. The problem is that Ford's solution was to put an insert in the damaged heads from the original removal. This insert was installed using JB Quick. I am guessing this will fail as well in the next 10K miles. I should probably file the claim, sell the truck, and wait another 2 years to get the check. I have done a lot of research on removing the plugs yourself, and it can be done with a lot of time and patience (I dont suggest using and impact as many of the youtube videos show). The bummer is that this is actual a pretty good engine other than the spark plugs and exhaust manifold issues. By the way Ford still denies that this is known problem.....Sorry for the book of a post. PM if you want me to rant more...BTHO BAMA
