I have a book on the history of Jefferson parish, and there is very little on Grand Isle. I wonder what the real answer is.

Tried looking this up and can't find a answer on it. Port Fourchon is in Lafourche, so doesn't seem to have anything to do with oil.
I think it had more to do with Jefferson Parish having more money and means to help keep Grand Isle up and running as opposed to Lafourche, when the decision was made.

It is 100% no doubt Jefferson Parish.

Probable cause: Parish lines drawn. Grand Isle, or the place that became Grand Isle, fell within the lines drawn. Conspiracy? Not likely, but still convenient for smuggling, gambling, prostitution interests.

Promo Video on Grand Isle
This video was produced by Jefferson Convention and Vistiors Bureau.
The graphic superimposed on video says "experiencejefferson.com"
and in the background music, someone is singing "You're going to love Jefferson..."

Parish lines drawn
Still very odd, not really a straight line, more like they collected the islands south of them.
Maybe when New Orleans annexed Lafayette and Carrolton from Jefferson parish, they got Grand Isle in a trade off.

You're wrong. Be smarter and you will understand that all things here make sense. Repost this on the PoliBoard and all will be made clear to you.

The answer to this question is to learn about Isle Dernire ( last island, located near Grand Isle and also part of Jefferson Parish) It was a major tourist destination before a hurricane in the late 1800 washed it away.

Or read the Kate Chopin book and how people took horse and buggy to vacation in Grand Isle from Nola (JP).

Last Island is part of Terrebone Parish.

Last Island was originally part of Jefferson Parish.
If my memory is correct , Claims of ownership by the original owner of the island had a lot to do with what parish it was in.
Supposedly a ruling that any island that bordered Barataria bay (which last island did not, but Grand isle does) was ruled as part of Jefferson Parish.
