Do they really want to pidgeon-hole the branding back to a declining industry? Texans is far more inclusive.

When there's nothing driving that region's economy in a few decades it just won't resonate as strongly as a nickname as Texans would.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you know nothing about energy.

Oilfield trash in denial is not a new phenomenon :/

Do you think Houston is full of oilfields?

houston isn't full of oilfields, but texas was, once ... and the name resonates with anyone who was born before 1990 ... nfl let bud keep the name and it won't ever be back in houston ... it was a stupid decision, but it's the nfl ...

Pittsburgh seems to okay with their Steelers name even though the steel industry in the area went to hell decades ago.

It's not terrible but it's so generic. The Oilers is a much better nickname than the Texans and they have a much more colorful history.
too much "cows" with two football teams. We get it, Texas is all about cows. Go back to Oilers or something that references NASA.

You missed several opportunities to drop "mates"

Texans is too generic and a copy of the original Dallas Texans. And the color scheme is blah
Even as a cowboys fan, the Oilers unis were sweet. A flood of memories of Earl and Dan Pastorini. We were all Oilers fans against the evil empire of the Steelers. The unis fit the story perfectly.

I don't know. It's not like the Oilers were a storied franchise.

I would switch my lifelong allegiance from the Cowboys to the Oilers If they made this change.

Edmonton Oilers could move to Houston. Not sure why Houston never got an NHL team.

There were actually discussions back in the late '90s for that to happen.

The proper thing to do is for an attorney to get a class-action lawsuit going against the NFL. Every person that ever attended a game/bought a ticket from the Houston Oilers should claim some sort of loss or anguish over losing the oilers.
Just basically create a PR shite storm for the NFL and create a more hostile environment for the upcoming moves of possibly 3 teams to the Los Angeles area and you'll get your Oilers.

I will never accept Houston being anything other than the Oilers

Because Les Alexander (Rockets owner) would not let it happen unless he owned the team.

since the oil derrick logo and Luv Ya Blue was such a big part of the city.
maybe if the fricking dallas cowboys didn't own Houston at the time and the city built the oilers a new stadium they would still be there.
face it, for decades there were more cowboy fans than oiler fans in Houston. the oilers were from the "inferior" AFL and the cowboys were proven winners. it's amazing how many people are "fans" only of winning teams.
in short, Houston doesn't deserve the name Oilers nor Luv Ya Blue. BUT, it would definitely be a huge marketing victory to get them back. how about BUYING THEM from the owner.
