It may just be me but it seems a few times a punt could have been blocked. Our guys just pull back every time. I get the risk of running I to kicker but it sure does seem there is no effort whatsoever in blocking a punt. Our special teams sure do seem extremely vanilla and lack effort.

Our past special teams couldn't attempt to block a punt without getting a personal foul, so I can't even fathom how much they would be improved under our current ST wiz

Trey Quinn almost blocked one against EMU. Imo its just that nobody wants tl run into the punter and get chewed out/get the penalty.

We have to set up the fair catch.

you only call punt block whenever there is no chance of a return. if the opponent is at midfield or close to it while punting, then normally you call punt block. otherwise, the return is on

I agree that we could have easily blocked a punt had we sold out. Their punt formation was terrible basically the only people left to block were the wall. The rest of the team was spread out down the line and didn't even worry about chipping our players. Only the outside players would have to worry about a fake since the gunners and the back men are the only eligible receivers.

I've been a bit perturbed about the lack of aggression on special teams. They seem to trot up and watch, then jog backwards and that's it. I know blocks are rare, but if you put just a little pressure on the punter and the blockers, sometimes good things happen. I prefer it when we play for the possibility of advantage every play.

we dont put any pressure on the punter, giving him a free kick. when we put pressure, there is a better chance he shanks one. ive been watching this for many teams. no rush free punt. pressure on punter creates less than and shanks. you can see it every week for those teams that pressure the punter

You really can't attempt to block a punt these days with the way the roughing the punter penalty is called. Touch the punter and it's 15 and a automatic first.

Very rare, also if you happen to run into the punter its an automatic first down (most of the time). Risk outweighs the reward.

In a word: Fournette

1) Why risk a roughing penalty when we can just run it down their throats after the fair catch.

2) If we did get the block, that would lead to a much shorter drive and less yardage for Fournette.

Someone would have to stop us consistently before we put the punt block back on.

So we can perfect the art of the fair catch.

we went after one that i recall on saturday, Or not really went after, emu just didnt feel like blocking anyone and a player almost got a hand on it standing up. But i do notice the players just kind of contain.

Ok it was quinn, he really should have blocked that one.
