So this is the "trade him he sucks" thread. Trade for what? a 5th? 4th? GTFO

What's Brees' value? A second rounder?
No one wants that contract, 4-5 round pick at best

Did you not see what was traded for Carson Palmer not long ago? We could absolutely get a good return for Brees.
No this is the "Our entire team sucks, lets get some assets for Brees so we can start the rebuild" thread.

He has 1 year left on his contract.

Wrong. With only one season left on his deal, it would make for an easy restructure or extention. He's not going anywhere though especially if he is hurt more than we are being lead to believe. I think his arm could actually be seriously hurt.

I guess you could attempt to kidnap him, but even if you were successful, I don't think it would help the saints

Brees costs too much for this team to be competitive as long as he's on it.
It was a great run, but it's over. Trading him at least gets us something of value in return.
Maybe Dallas would listen...

His shitty play might leave us with room to sign him for less when his deal is up.
People need to wake up. We aren't trading Brees and he's not retiring. Even if he turns to pure trash, we will go down with his ship. But who knows, maybe after 3-4 years of sucking and top 10 picks we might be in good position after he's gone.

Brees contract makes him untradable
However if he were somehow traded he would have to pass a physical.
after today and the possibility he may be injured, passing a physical exam may be impossible

Why do people keep saying this? This is false. All it takes is Brees agreeing to restructure his contract upon the finalization of the trade. Ellerbe did the same thing when he was traded for Stills & the restructure is what ultimately made it a viable trade for both teams. Brees also only has one year on his deal once the new league rolls around in a few months, making a restructure a lot easier than some of you even realize.

If his arm is severely injured we are better off putting him on IR. this would give us leverage in restructuring and future contract talks. This would also give us a chance to get a top 10 draft position, something I think could truly help us.

At this point does it really matter? If even having Drew Brees can't win us games this year, then seriously does it really matter? I am not saying I'm ready to throw in the towel on the season, but if we go 0-5 before the trade deadline and somebody makes a reasonable offer, at that point how much would it hurt? Of if say we go 7-9 this year and miss the playoffs, again, then with that being 2 years in a row with an aging QB, why the hell wouldn't we entertain offers?
I was in favor of going into the season with just Brees & Grayson on the roster, we aren't winning games with McCown and if we would have cut him and Brees gets hurt for an extended period of time at any point this season I am pretty sure that we could pick McCown back up because no other team will sign him. If at any point this year the season looks like its lost, or if/when we are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, we need to play Grayson and let him get some real playing time with meaningful snaps to see what he can do. He may not be Drew Brees, even the 2015 version, but the money we would save not paying Brees could go to getting a few more pieces of the puzzle and still help the team overall.

I don't think the Saints need to trade him. The problem with the Saints deals more with the expectation of Brees. Brees is not the same QB he was 6 years ago. There are things he can no longer do. The play calling has become too predictable, not so much on 1st down, but 2nd down. If they run on 1st down, they will pass on 2nd down, and vice versa. They will pass on 3rd down. It doesn't matter if it's 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 9. The Saints believe Brees is still the best chance for a win. The real problem, is Payton and Brees are addicted to the passing game. No matter what they say, or what they do, the Saints will always rely on the pass. They also need to realize that Robinson is a better back than Ingram. They made too many moves this off season because they said they wanted to get back to running the ball. Rob Ryan's defense is not working. The players can not operate under that defense. He needs to run a 4-3, with 2 DB's, a Safety and a free safety, instead of some hybrid 3-4.

I missed the presser, but did he really say he's been hurt for a while? I remember he was talking all preseason how good he felt this preseason compared to last when he had the oblique injury.

Oh yeah. Brees is a hot commodity right now.
