Which 30-06 brand rifle for south LA hunting?

Need my first deer rifle. What is the main benefit of spending the extra money for a Browning over something like a Remington or Winchester? Any real benefit other than the name?
Which brand would you suggest for my first rifle?

No benifit. I've hunted with a remington model BDL 30-06 for 20 years. Will never buy another deer rifle.

They all go kaboom and will shoot well enough to kill deer at reasonable ranges. Get whichever one you like. You pretty much get what you pay for.

spend $300 on a savage.. then spend the rest on a scope. Thank me later

I've had my Remington 700 for about 20 years. I still use it for every deer hunt. Great gun, few parts, will last forever if you care for it.

Same. Passed to me from my dad. I think it may be a little older than 20 years. I'd have to ask him.

Spend $150 on a crack barrel H&R, then spend $150 on a cheap Nikon scope.
Shots at deer farther than 100 yards are not common in Louisiana.

Made every hunt with my Remington 700 since 2003. Haven't had a single problem.
Where the hell do you hunt?

There are multiple levels to look at as far as bolt actions go. Most major manufactures (haven't come across one that doesn't) guarantee sub MOA out of the box with factory loads so after that you are paying for nicer stocks, stainless vs blued barrels, and floorplates or a magazine feed, ect...
Entry level under $500
Ruger American, Winchester XPR, Savage/Remington (unsure of models)
Mid level$500-$800
Tikka T3, Remington, TC Venture
Upper level $800+
Browning X/Abolt, Sako, Winchester Model 70
*Just threw a few of each in there for examples

I guess all of your deer kills have been at 300+ yards

You know, there are many, many pipelines and high lines in Louisiana?

Nah. 1 gps confirmed for sure. Probably 3 all together. But all I hunt are pipelines and powerlines. More of my shots have been over 100 yds compared to less that 100 yds. Definitely not uncommon.

Besides that distance of my shots, the cheap bushel scope that came with my 700 hasn't checked up yet. It failed me twice when I forgot to take the fricking scope caps off.

Paw paw got a good "deal" on a sako 25.06 a while back. That thing is smooth as silk, but too damn pretty to take in the woods

The Savage and the Ruger American are both good shooting rifles.
If it's still around, avoid the Remmington 770 combo from Academy.
