Per DOTD the exit can remain open and another lane added at the same time.
the best of both worlds. fantastic.
closing it and making it another lane would have been the easiest short term solution.

I haven't seeen anyone address it, but there is already a major part of the infrastructure for a loop in existence. If you take I-55 and connect it to the Gramercy/Wallace Bridge, funnel traffic to 3127, complete that to Gross Tete, then a possible connection to the bridge in St Francisville at 190; that removes a large amount of traffic just passin through BR. Large trucks, Texas, People just passing through. It is mainly farmland and Swamp, so I am thinking this would not be a huge right of way cost as opposed to throught EBR/East Ascensin/Livingston. Also, you include the bridge widening and ramp widening, finish the intertate to 6 lanes to Sorrento.

That would have solved nothing. You would gain 420 feet of lane to merge and that's it.

A raised expressway with little to no off ramps in the middle of airline all the way down to sorrento could work. It crosses both I 12 and I 10 and could be done without too much upheaval

Unless they floated the lanes over making the right lane a permanent one not a merge.. 110 would suffer some more congestion but thats much more manageable

They wouldn't cut 110 to one lane.
That would really block the downtown crowd

Maybe they should have interviewed a few of the tens of thousands that sit in traffic on the substandard system every day.
Build 8 lanes per side, a loop, a new bridge and whatever else it takes.
My business will not be impacted and I am against a construction only plan. For our traffic woes to get better we need a more modern plan. We do not need to break out plans from the 70s. We need:
Better Public Transportation System
More businesses allowing employees to work from home some (or all) days
Car Pooling
Businesses that starting and ending at odd hours.
Plus we need construction.
Construction only will not work. It will be miserable during the construction and by the time it finishes population and demand will grow for the route.

BR just passed a large tax to fund public transportation.
Besides encourage car pooling what can govt. do? It's up to private citizens to car pool.
And private businesses can change their hours now and even elect to have people work at home. You don't need to pass a law to do that.
And yes construction is necessary.

Exactly. Why is the largely Republican state only screaming "More Government!"
We need to have the public screaming for business owners and individuals to step up.

the cars coming up that ramp slow the traffic coming off the bridge down

Wouldn't that bring traffic too far out of the way to make it a viable alternative?
Its probably 100 miles from Grosse Tete to LaPlace, then they would have to traverse the extra ~30 or so miles to get back to I-12. Easily looking at 130 miles vs the 60 or so from Grosse Tete to Hammond.
I do think putting an interstate from LA 415 down the west bank side all the way to 90 (Future I-49) would have a huge economic development impact on that area. Honestly those parish governments could probably get that done before BR got any type of loop or widening completed.

The state can at least implement this. Most people don't need to be here. They can just go through the VPN and have designated meeting days.

This Friday afternoon will be another shitshow!!
Tear down that barbershop with the vacuum clippers and all other buildings in the way of building 5 more lanes EB off the damn bridge.

Sure the state can stagger their work hours. I believe they do that now.
But do you want state workers working at home?

I agree. Video chat and laptops are pretty much standard these days. I think employees should began demanding this as a benefit in lieu of driving in this mess. Going to the office and sitting in traffic is just the way it always has been. Very few people can handle change.
It is not going to get any better if construction is our only answer.

You don't think they are people abusing the system now? If it saved us money in less costs to run government (fewer and smaller office leases) and it meant less traffic then I am for it. If people are not going to get their work done at home then most likely they are already not doing crap all day.

Yep. I'm in the boat that if the job gets done who cares how they achieved it. If they were to set deadlines and a weekly work schedule/goal, what does it matter if they are at work or at home as long as it gets done?

Try carpooling.

Loop..never mind, too progressive for BR....question: what happens to all of the money the state gets from the lotto?
