Email is a distraction. I check twice a day.

The fact that you check it all day says to me that you're wasting time.

If I don't respond within an hour of receiving a work email, somebody better check and make sure I'm not dead. It's the first thing I do in the morning when I get to the office. I respond to all emails first, then check voicemails.

Email is more important in some professions than others.

Meetings all day possibly? I have some days where I am in meetings for 4 plus hours non-stop. I don't bring my laptop with me if it is a meeting with the level of management above me. It is bad form at my company to do that.

If the emails are that important, just start CC'ing your boss. If the co-worker isn't responding to time-sensitive emails consistently, make sure your boss knows any delay in getting shite done is their fault and not yours.

Yeah, my livelihood is based around email too. It's actually quite nice.

Priority 1: call
Priority 2: Microsoft Lync (internal messaging)
Priority 3: email

I think most time management courses teach people to only check emails at certain times. Email is a big distraction. Email is not instant messaging.

This is correct.

I work in a pretty big firm. 100,000+ employees. This has probably happened only a few times in the couple of years I've worked there, but every now and then an email goes out that seems like it tags most of the firm (whether it's by accident or malicious, not sure) and its contents make zero sense.

The amount of people that respond to the email without realizing it's being sent to 100,000+ people is mind boggling to me. Saying something like "I believe this was sent to me in error" or "please remove me from this distribution".

One time there was about 500 responses like this before it got killed. I was laughing my arse off.

Email is overused and adds very little to the bottom line.

This happens several times/week.

Sounds like you need to go talk to them in person.

I'n my line of work I'm constantly playing CYA for every other dept. I usually don't make phone calls about a developing situation . If I do it's backed up with an email. Usually it's email or text because i have to have proof to upper management and our customers that the situation is being taken care of

LOL... we may work for the same company.

Anyways... I check my email, I just don't feel like responding to anal employees ridiculous string of hand holding/cover their arse emails.

I have a lady who sends me an e-mail and then walks to my office to tell me she e-mailed me. Luckily I only get about 10 e-mails a week.

This is the pussy way of doing things. Nothing worse than a passive aggressive boss cc email. If you need shite done ASAP, call. If they're not getting their part done or not pulling their load, speak to them in person or call. Go to the boss if you give them a personal heads up and they still ignore you.
