This is an absolutely absurd claim.

Levon Helm didn't make the stones top 100 list, and that's a damn shame
I'm not a fan of ranking in general but Rolling Stone lists are particularly bad and this should be an indicator to discredit anything they put their stamp of approval on.

Fact. I've found myself preferring a drummer that sets a good groove over one who is flashy a la Neil Peart or Carter Beauford. I'm not knocking those guys; they're great drummers. But more and more I can appreciate a guy that lays down a nice groove and creates a space for the other musicians in the band.

Same here. And I didn't get that appreciation until I started drumming. Yeah, Mike Portnoy and Danny Carey are great technical drummers, but someone like Keith Carlock, Steve Jordan, JJ Johnson are so much more impressive to me.

for 15 minutes in August 1969 Michael schrieve was the greatest drummer on the planet, at age 19. He's still well regarded but I doubt most people even know who he is

The John Mayer drummers. Steve Jordan is a fricking animal. Saw him with Mayer for a set, saw Carlock for another. The latest one I saw with him was Aaron Sterling, he is solid as well.

Chris Fryar. Don't know if he's been mentioned.
Also agree with Levon Helm. That documentary a few years ago was excellent.
ETA: also would like to add the cat that plays for Kelly Clarkson. Lester Estelle
