This is my first handgun. 9 mm. 4.5" barrel.

The XDM has the grip safety and 19 round magazine. I'm definitely leaning that way, but it's a few more dollars.

TIA

But it's really a toss-up. Whatever feels best to you will suit you just fine.

The XDm also comes with a ton of stuff. It comes with a paddle holster, a mag holster, and 3 magazine (IIRC). It brings a lot to the table.

Just don't let this hinge on your decision. It's a very passive safety device in that it gets depressed anytime you grab the gun.

But, the grip safety must be depressed to retract the slide. That fact I HATE!

Here's my review of the XDm 5.25 FWIW. It's got the same frame as the 4.5" but has a much longer slide.

Springfield XDM 9mm 4.5 barrel is a smooth shootin SOB. Purchased one about a year ago and love it. I would highly recommend.

Which is the reason not to buy it, IMHO.

Sig P226 is even more, but it is the finest full-size 9mm service pistol on the market, again,IMHO.

Have you looked at Taurus? They seem to get a lot or respect on this board

Grip safety is the US military's way of fing up one of the greatest guns of all time!

I own one of each.

I like them both - the XDM is a more polished product, but the glock fits my hand better. And I feel like I could ignore the glock for years and it wouldn't harm it one bit.
