Troy Aikman and 16 others who don't belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame

In the four major professional sports, The Pro Football Hall of Fame is both the most difficult to evaluate for potential inductees and the most meaningless in terms of eventually getting the nod. When there’s a quota of between four and eight enshrinees every year, it naturally waters down the Hall. This weekend brought in a fine class, but they join a number of men whose place in Canton is a tad questionable. Here are 17 who probably don’t deserve their busts in the Hall.
1. TROY AIKMAN
Yeah, I said it. Zero All-Pro teams. Five of 12 seasons at .500 or below. Barely more touchdown passes (165) than interceptions (141). His approximate value on pro-football-reference ranks No. 167 overall, behind Warrick Dunn, Ricky Watters, Steve McMichael, Henry Ellard, Randall Cunningham, Boomer Esiason, Drew Bledsoe, London Fletcher, Dave Krieg, Donovan McNabb and so many other ridiculous names. Brad Johnson has more touchdown passes as does Jon Kitna, Chris Chandler and Jim Everett and, well, so many other ridiculous names. His passer rating is 49th in league history. He has three Super Bowls? Great. That’s one more than Eli Manning. Aikman was a fine NFL quarterback. He was a very fine NFL quarterback. At points he was a superb NFL quarterback. He was not a Hall of Fame quarterback.
2. CRIS CARTER
Carter had a lot of catches in an era in which receivers caught a lot of balls. (Right, Herman Moore?) All he did was catch touchdowns, but he led the league in receptions just once and in receiving touchdowns three times. Like Aikman, Carter was a great NFL player. Unlike Aikman, Carter didn’t excel in the playoffs, averaging 4.5 catches per postseason game and scored six of his eight touchdown in losses. He also never played for a team that made the Super Bowl, which is only a small strike. Carter is a lot like Rafael Palmeiro (before the steroid thing) — a great player who never felt like a Hall of Famer during his career. But, hey, who knows. Maybe he’ll one day get in for his stellar announcing career.

how isn't Namath número uno? without the guarantee, he's not even in.

I can't wait to see the Troy Aikman responses.

Namath should be number 1. And the NFL Hall of Fame over-rewards good teams, which is why Swann and Stallworth got in.
Cris Carter and Warren Moon were great players though.

Cris Carter not worthy?
How many better receivers have there been? Do they only want like 5 wideouts in Canton?

More lineman, less position players.

OJ Simpson on that list is hilarious

I could go either way on most of those players, but Hornung and Namath are the epitome of guys who don't deserve to be in the HoF and only got in because of their celebrity.
Between his undeserved Heisman and undeserved HoF induction, Paul Hornung is the most overrated football player ever.

Why isn't Bradshaw on this list if aikman is

Chris Carter and Warren Moon should be in. I agree on most of the others though.

But....but....Troy Aikman is better than Tony Romo

Dude I respect your opinion a lot on here but you are way off base........The dude was the best punter EVER.....

Aikman is an argument. Carter is not. And Martin is deserving too.

Whoa dude...... Grant was a great great coach.....The Viking teams of the late 60's and early 70;s were some of the best all-time.. I understand they lost all those SB;s but the respect and records speak for themselves....
OJ???? You can't be serious.... He played on some really shitty teams and the D knew what was coming and still had trouble stopping him.. The guy was a joy to watch and was tough as hell....

OJ Simpson and Cris Carter? Lol....

Aikman's QB Rating in the playoffs on those three Superbowl teams.
1992 - 126
1993 - 104
1995 - 106
Dude was nails when it counted.

Wait did he just call Ray Guy an average punter?

1000 yd seasons back in the day was quite a feat for WR's.
They didn't throw the ball no where nearly as much then. Plus the way rules favor QB and WR's much more now than then. The defense actually got to play defense back then.
