Ya it's pretty brutal. I was in a bad way for about a month. You have to do something. You can't just wait for it to go away. Read up on it. Your case is not unusual. Most people with Panic Disorder have the exact same issues. Just accept it, and remember that you're not going to die from a panic attack. You may be uncomfortable for half an hour, but you'll be ok. I bought a book on Cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety and panic, and it really helped me out.

The only time I deal with anxiety is when I am in a vehicle. I can drive all day long, but put me on a bus, or in the passenger seat and its on. Bad thing is the anxiety leads to a crazy case of the bubble guts. I have been taking welbutrin and it seems to be working.

I have always had anxiety since I was a kid. I've tried to beat it on my own for over 10 years & it just didn't work. The past couple of years have been really bad. I get attacks where I feel like I can't breathe & my heart races so I start freaking out. I'm on daily medication now & I feel like my old self again! I'm not constantly worried about my health, I am more social... I just feel like I don't dwell on things anymore. I'm not so pessimistic. My anxiety has always helped me being organized & medication has not changed that. There are still some things I need to work on but that's what therapy is for.

They say medication & therapy together is the best route & eventually they will take you off of the medication. So that's what I'm working on now.

I had a very similar experience. I'd never had anxiety issues, and about 5 years ago suddenly started to suffer from debilitating panic attacks. I was completely anti-medication, but after a couple ER visits and deciding that I was going to lose my job and livelihood, took my GP's recommendation to try Paxil. It worked like a charm. I took it for only about six months, and haven't had a panic attack or needed medication since.

The longer you let this go without medication, the worse it will get. And benzos (xanax, klonopin, etc.), while helpful, won't solve the underlying issue. It's something chemical, and being tough and thinking happy thoughts won't fix the problem. I know because I tried. Get help.

This is true. I also think there is a misconception about what actually triggers a "panic" attack. The initial symptoms of my first one were 100% physical and completely out of the blue. I wasn't under any stress at the time. In fact, if anything I was in an excited almost giddy mood when the terrifying symptoms first hit. I guess you could say I "panicked" when the weird physical sensations and loss of control of my balance, breathing, and heart rate hit me.

Same here. I was with friends watching a game during the 2010 World Cup without a worry in the world when I had my first panic attack. It had nothing to do with situational anxiety.

Serious as shite here man. Listen up.

Get your arse to the doctor....

Have him run blood work
Check:
Tsh and thyroid disorder
Testosterone
Vitamin d
Vitamin b12
DHEA
Eatradiol (e2)

I had panic attacks. Once they fixed my dhea and vitamin d then started me on test injections everything is 1000% better. My estrogen spiked to 53 with the injections and that left me with rapid heart rate and extreme nervousness. Once we added in an estrogen blocker they went away. Estrodiol should be below like 22-24. I dropped weight once everything leveled out and my dhea went up I cut back on estrodial blocker. I hope to get off it.

Don't let them stuff you full of pills until you have all that shite checked.

DHEA and vitamin D alone is wonderful. Don't take no for a fricking answer

Ftr I'm 6'4" 228lbs and 33

Test level is 470. Estrodial is down to 25-28. Dhea is back into range and is vitamin D.

I will take that advice to heart, as you aren't the first person to tell me something along these lines... However, I'm not sure how my doctors are going to react when I walk into the office and tell them how to treat me m

Is that an illogical assumption?

Just ask them to run some labs because you want to make sure there's nothing physically wrong

They shouldn't have a problem with that

In the summer of 2012 I was suffering through panic attacks. I eventually conquered them because I began to realize everything was in my head. I also took up running. Two miles a day every day of the week. By the end of the summer I was cured from them.

If you mention a racing heartbeat, your doctor should, as a matter of course and to rule out other causes, do blood work to check your thyroid function and send you to a cardiologist for a work-up. I'm sure he can then run whatever tests on the blood that you want. But if the blood work turns up nothing, don't try to be a hero. Take the drugs (you'll likely get the lowest dose initially), get yourself back to normal, then wean off of them.

Then find new doctors. If they are too egotistical to listen to their patient then frick em. Its nothing for them to code blood work.

That is not illogical... I got fricking dicked around cause I was nice and let them see what I needed and never said shite.

Its your fricking life not theirs. If they don't want to do it then find one who will. They work for you. There are online labs you and big and have drawn at labcorp on your own.

Don't mean to sound bitter but I and still so fricking angry that when I found the right doctor that listened to me and found all that shite wracked out I went back to the nurse practitioner I was seeing for years with the results and gave them to her and said thanks for not a fricking thing.

You are your best champion. You owe it to yourself to man up and not live like this.

Solid info judge, thanks for that...

I'm kind of in an embarrassing situation now though... I was recently laid off and just started a new job so I have zero health insurance for the next two and a half months... I'm guessing that the costs for these tests and other things are going to be pretty high... I spoke with my parents (who are a lot better off than I am) and they promised to get me the help that I need which is a good thing... With that being said, since I have a new job, it's going to be really hard for me to get out and get the tests done, but if they can't understand that then frick them... I'm tired of living like this, this isn't me and I can't stand the fact that I'm not in control of my own emotions..
