Teachers have lost so much respect over the years. Half of you people claiming it's so easy would hate to deal with kids who don't care about you at all for 40k a year. Have fun!
Scruffy wants to say "many", but he is leaning towards most of them being unqualified to teach.
Combine that with our decreasing academic scores, the getting tied up in politics, and their what seems like constant complaining, and you have a perfect storm.

50k is starting pay after stipends are added.
What's another job where you are guaranteed 50k startong salary and 15 weeks of vacation?

I need to just bookmark this so I don't have to recalculate it every year.
According to Salary.com, the average teachers salary in Louisiana is $47,310. Teachers work, on average, 190 days/year with school and professional development days.
$47,310/190/8= $31.13/hr.
Lets compare that to someone that makes $70K/year. In 2015, there are 251 working days. $70,000/251/8= $34.86/hr.
Don't tell me about the late nights and weekends you have to work. Most professions have to do that too, some far beyond what a teacher has to do. Lets also not discuss that teachers have between 5-10 days of personal time to be used during the school year. Lets also not discuss that, if they so chose, a teacher can get a side job during the summer doing extra work if they so choose. I'd also like to remind you of the pretty sweet pensions/benefits teachers get as well, all if which is guaranteed. And you also get a nice three month break in the middle of the year to unwind, relax, and prepare yourself for dealing with kids in the fall. Ive been able to use 2 vacation days so far this year, and I worked three of my paid holidays, so I'm negative 1 day off for the year and probably wont get to take my first week off until the first week of December.
Edit: Forgot to mention sabbaticals. Take a year off for health/professional development and earn 70% salary? Not too shabby.

I guess every school is different, but my girlfriend is a teacher and she doesn't get 3 months off. She actually had work through the last week of May, and is back at school this week doing presentations. She also was out of town all week last week for an orientation.
She had the month of June off, except a couple of days for another orientation, and about half of July off.
Just because the kids get off for 2.5 months doesn't mean the teachers do.
She also doesn't really complain much about going back, and actually works another teaching job every June that is unrelated to her full time job.

The reason people respect teachers less is because no other profession pats themselves on the back and complains more than teachers. I get it, kids are assholes but you knew that going into it.

In no way do I hate teachers, I hate the complaining
I always defend teachers here and rightfully so as the typical mouthbreather complaints are pretty absurd but the op isn't wrong.
Most teachers work very hard for very little money and respect but enough is enough with the whining. Change careers if you are that unhappy with your jobs.

I teach and I'm actually ready to get back to work. I love what I do and don't really care what all you OT ballers think. I live a comfortable life and provide for my family and look forward to going to work everyday. I'm sure some people on here couldn't say the same.

I have 8 teachers that I can think of in my wife and I's immediate family, and not one of them ever makes complaints like these on facebook. Am I just lucky, or do some of yall overblow the amount of complaining?

Zachary, De Soto, Iberville. Those I know off the top of my head.
I was equally surprised by the stipends and paid professional developments.

I think most people admire teachers who love their jobs and do it well.
