after some googling, looks like he flew some during vietnam. yea he did say the crop dusting ever since. hell i guess its feasible to jump in a brand new fighter jet and fly it perfectly into the enemy beam lol.

If the controllers could keep track of each and their remaining weapons, why did they say "all missles have been fired" when Kay had one left

Probably couldn't focus on reading their screens because random people like Mexican Keanu were walking in the room while the most important battle in Earth's history was happening.

i dont think they had all the jets online. the screens were a 4x4 screen iirc and they had a shite ton of jets. that room was pretty small and like saintsfan said, they had no security. mexican kid was just running in there like it was no big thing.

goldblums woman had to tell the head area 51 guy that there was a whole army of people outside the compound when the aliens were incoming. they had their heads up their asses

What's amazing is that the mother ship could oversee conquering worlds but yet had no norton or mcafee antivirus / malware detection software....

Yeah. I think they even showed an old newspaper article with a pic of him when he was younger in his fighter pilot days. To the OP:

What Russel did

Was a very brave thing

You should be proud of him

I always wondered what was a whole fighter squadron doing parked at area 51 and if they flew them in then who did it since they had to ask for civilian pilots?

Right before the first alien attack on July 2 he gets arrested and the local news shows an image of him and his jet during Vietnam. Miguel sees it on TV right before going to find his sister in the truck with the rich kid from 10 Things... You guys are fricking amateur hour tonight

I think it was F4s he flew in the 'nam.

And how was Goldblum's MacBook compatible with alien tech when it wasn't compatible with any other tech known to man kind in the 90s

This thread is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.

If you can't see that "Encino Man" is quite possibly the most brilliant cinematic study of man as a product of his cognitive dissonances, with a compelling subversion of the putative divide between the id and the superego in the name of our right to par-tay, I don't know what to tell you.

one big clusterfrick of contradictions

I used to rarely get my Mac to recognize anything Windows, much less an alien computer language.

And why didn't the aliens just get into the heads of all the pilots? They clearly had telepathy. Wouldn't they have done that to the guys who uploaded the virus?

And why would the Secretary of the Defense (before he was fired) be telling everyone they shouldn't attack the aliens? Makes absolutely no sense.

Other than that . . . it was fantastic entertainment.

I may be wrong, but I think I recall hearing that the script originally included a discussion of how part of what they'd discovered in the ship was the programming and how the computers worked, and Goldblum took it from there. Maybe something about how modern technology evolved in part from their stripping of the alien space craft's secrets? Still stupid as hell, but not actually overlooked.

Maybe they ferried a bunch over from Mothman? Behind the scenes.

I'd like to think he revived his career when he recently reprised that role, or that line, anyway. I sure as hell enjoyed his performance. Arf! Arf! Arf!
