How often do you go a day without spending any money?

This is mostly a question for the married people or people with families, as I'm sure its easy for single people. I know I could go a full week without spending any money while single.

But for posters with a wife or a family, how often does your entire family go without spending any money within a day? We charge everything, so I'm able to track this type of stuff, and I just had to go back almost 3 months before I found a day where we didn't spend any money. This kind of horrifies me.

Just seems like either me or my wife will go out for lunch or pick up coffee on the way to work or we will need to make a run to the store for some ketchup or something, which isn't a big deal, just kind of horrifying how often we go without being a consumer for a day.

I don't think my wife nor I go a day without spending any money, one of us will purchase something. Now, I think I could go quite a few days without buying something but the wife, not a chance, as she is always saving me money on the items she purchases...:-)...they are called Grandchildren...and that is real fine by me

Step 1) wake up
Step 2) eat xanax
Step 3) wake up 24 hours later

We try to do it for a week at a time every now and then.

We try to cook all of our meals but we always seem to be out of at least one key ingredient. I find it fun to improvise in situations like that but the wife doesn't always want to.

It's a fun way to clean out the freezer, pantry, and fridge.

It can be done but in reality you're just spending more the day / week before to cover the next day / week

Easy for us. Pack a lunch for work that consists of the previous night's leftovers. Add granola and yogurt for breakfast, along with a few other snacks from home to get me thru the day.

Rinse and repeat the next day.

the wife and I do this probably every week. The wife hardly buys anything (thanks! hon), and mondays aren't a day we grocery shop or do anything that would be spending money.

I can do it easily its just getting the wife (who works on the road) to not spend money for lunch. It's the weekend that kills me. No kids by the way.

I can go an entire week without spending on anything outside of fuel. My wife can't go a day without stopping a store and buying something.

Why would this be horrifying? I pay the electric bill once a month but I use electricity every day, for example.

Easy for me and i do it for days at a time. I work and live on a military base. Make my coffee in morning and go home for lunch. Dont spend a penny.

Can't say the same for the wife though.

That's kind of a fun things to do, I guess. But I've never looked at it like that before. When I've done budgets, I've always looked at how much has been spent in various categories over a month or a quarter and then made adjustments to my spending, if I felt it necessary. Given my wicked past, a month living like a monk could easily have been cancelled out by one weekend living like Caligula.

Not spending money for a day is really easy, unless you factor in that you have just pre-spent the money at some other time. It's hard to get around using gas or food for a day.

Me... Never
Wife... About 4 days a week.

It's because I buy all of the groceries and all of the gas for both cars. Then there is Starbucks every morning and golf once a week.
She only shops online about 3 days a week because she's a shift worker and sleeps when stores are open.
