10-23 versus Nadal
Actually I think it's 14-23, 9-3 in majors. But it's 13-2 Rafa on clay 5-0 at the French. Rafa easily the best clay court player ever, no player has been better on a single surface than Nadal on clay. On hard court it's 10-9 Fed and 2-1 Fed on grass so 12-10 Fed overall and 4-3 Nadal in majors excluding clay.

I just don't think tennis has the level of competition that it had back in the '80s, so it's easier for a good player to dominate. Back in the '80s you had Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Lendl, Wilander. Edberg, Becker, Agassi...Is the top 10 that deep in today's game?
ETA: Just looked up the top 10 rankings during Sampras' dominant years, and there wasn't nearly the star quality deep into the top 10 that there was in the '80s either.

Oh, so making just making the Finals is good enough in tennis. Basketball is different I guess

Agassi doesn't count as the 80's...he didn't win his first GS until '92.
Right now, you have Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, and Wawrinka all with multiple slams. There's also a ton of quality guys who aren't winning titles because of the domination of these guys. The level of competition is amazing right now.

You discount Agassi yet then include people just like him?
The hardest thing about winning a Grand Slam was the schedule. The biggest help for people was moving Australian to January. To be honest I am surprised nobody has done it since Laver.

Where did I discount Agassi? I simply said that he shouldn't be included as one of the great players of the 80's. Agassi was a 90's player (though he was also great in the early 00's).

He was making Qtrs and higher before the Wimbledon win
I know he has at least 2 us open Semis in the 80's and was playing in Year end tournament in 88-90

Federer's PEDs > Nadal's PED's

Not only is Rafa totally suspect with the Spanish doping program...
But he's 4 years younger than Fed. When they came into this rivalry, Fed had already dominated tennis for a decade.
So some younger guy comes along and starts winning - no surprise he would have a better head to head record.
People act like they came into tennis at the same time.
Roger won his first Wimbledon in 2003.
Rafa won his first in 2008.
You can't go head-to-head as some be all and end all - that's fricking ridiculous.
Who knows how much Roger would have dominated Rafa and for how long if Rafa was around when Fed was dominating.
You can't show up late to the party and then claim you're the best when you aren't playing your opponent at his youthful best.

What are you talking about? So Nadal fans should discount anything before 2008?
I mean Nadal beat Fed in Miami (their first match) after Fed had won Wimbledon Nadal won 4. Major titles by the age which Fed won his first

If the career achievements are this close between them, and Federer has a massive disadvantage head-to-head against him, he clearly is not the GoaT.

Rafa was the best at his peak. Federer has the better career due to better health.
I know this is two years old, but it's idiotic. Rafa never consistently dominated the entire field across all surfaces the way that Fed did. You can make an argument that peak Novak was as dominant, but his peak was much shorter

Borg. As many Wimbledon and French opens as he won.
Connors won most singles titles ever. 109.

All French Opens. As I said no one has been better on a single surface than Nadal on Clay. But then again what difference does age at first major make?

This doesn't make any sense, most of Nadals majors where 2008 on. What he's saying is Nadal is 5 years younger, so it's not surprising that a 22-27 y/o was beating a 26-30 y/o.

Left handers have an incredible advantage in tennis. So I'll never say Nadal is the goat.
Roger is the best to ever play.

There are 4 GOATs to me, if that makes sense: Rod Laver, Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, and Roger Federer. Thing that distinguishes them from Roger is they were better doubles players. All 4 were about as unstoppable as they come ever.
Posted on 7/16/17 at 2:08 pm to goldennugget
All-around resume? He isn't even the best doubles player of all-time, John McEnroe is. Connors and Laver weren't too shabby in that department either in conjunction with being legendary singles players. Federer does exceed Murray and Djokovic there though.

Thanks for making my point. Nothing against your first three but without the advantages of playing from the left side those three are all lesser players.
