My Vette sits in the driveway too much since I'm always home, and the wife and my kid both need new cars soon. Insurance is far too high for the kid, so it doesn't make sense to have 3 cars. Insurance is $4K cheaper if I have 3 drivers on 2 cars and share with the wife and kid.

Criteria:
1)Wife's car (or SUV) has to be big enough for frequent out of state travel (karate tournaments around 2x/month), yet also has to be relatively sporty and fun to drive. Need room for 3 adult-sized humans, 2 suitcases, karate gear bag, and portable PA system.
2) Kid's car will also be used by me on occasion, possibly an occasional track day, so it needs to be sporty and fast (I will use a GPS monitoring system to keep the kid in check, but he's also as trustworthy a kid you'll ever find). Kid will be 16 at the time I purchase.

My initial thoughts are a Porsche Macan S and a Mustang GT. But I'm concerned that the Macan might be a bit small.

Toss out some options.

ETA: The wife doesn't want a big SUV. Right now she drives a Volvo XC90 (biggest piece of crap I've ever owned), and she doesn't really want to go bigger than that.

I'm sure my parents said the same about me and I drove like a maniac in a 95 silverado. Give me a fast sports car and I would have been a dead man

He's 15 now, but will be 16 when I buy. I have no real concerns about him driving something "too fast." Wife worries, but I'll monitor him via GPS to ease her concerns.

I think you can fit that in a Macan as long as the PA system isn't too large.

But this and a Mustang GT may put you over $100k.

This quote puts you in the running for Father of the Year.

This takes you out of the running.

Thank God that technology did not exist when I was a kid. And I wasn't a bad kid.

Get two good used vehicles. Spend 30k on wife something nice. And 20k on something for the kid. You have 50k left.. you should be able to get two very nice used vehicles for 50k

LINK

In BR and probably about the same price as a brand new reasonably optioned Macan S. Barely broken in with less than 10k miles per year.

You're a moron if you buy your 16 YO son a new Mustang GT.

Make the spoiled brat work for something. But him a 68 mustang fastback that needs work and get him some tools. It's called 'character building.'
