MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) -- Emergency crews are responding to an aircraft crash near Lewisfield Plantation off of Old Highway 52.
Federal Aviation Authority officials confirm a mid-air collision between a Cessna C-150 aircraft and a F-16 fighter aircraft 11 miles north of Charleston around 11 a.m.
After officials with the SC Air National Guard confirmed none of their F-16 aircraft were involved, a defense official told ABC News that the F-16 is from the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw AFB in Sumter and the pilot ejected safely.
Coast Guard officials said the pilot has been recovered and taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle.
According to media partners SConFire.com, the incident was being reported as a "plane collision" involving a Cessna with large debris in the area.
Berkeley County spokesperson Michael Mule confirmed with ABC News 4 that a plane crash was reported and he was on his way to the scene.
Multiple resources are en route including the Department of Natural Resources. North Charleston Fire Department spokeswoman Bianca Bourbeau told the Associated Press the agency has sent a chief and a marine unit to assist Berkeley County with a reported plane crash, and will send other help as needed.

Cessna shouldn't have been driving in the left lane

No way that turned out good for the Cessna passenger(s)

Fox 8 just said the F-16 does not belong to the Air Force. ???

Time to go find the hydrazine bottle

There's nothing left of that Cessna probably. RIP

This won't end well. Somebody's nuts are going to be in a sling over this.

This is not a funny accident, but....
I thought jet ramming was bannable?

pilot should be terminated dishonorably. Thanks for being a douche and costing us a $100 million or whatever aircraft and committing homicide on at least one very wealthy and taxpaying American citizen.

I just check, there is no TFR listed today in the entire state of South Carolina.
LINK
Anytime the military does anything or Air Force one is in the air, TFRs (temporary flight restrictions) are issued.
A TFR has to be issued for military jets operating low and outside of training lanes. (there are a ton of training lanes in Florida and out west) They are not called training lanes, the name escapes me.

I have nothing to add to this topic other than the fact that I'm from Sumter.
My mom's house is under the flight path for the jets on approach (about 5 miles away). I can't tell you how many times I've been able to see the ordiances from under the place as they turn in low and fast. Always shook the house.
On clear nights you can also see/hear random C-130's on takeoffs and approaches. Cool sight to see.

UPDATE
Two weeks ago a U.S. Air Force F-16 hit a little Cessna 150 propeller airplane while both were in the air near Charleston, South Carolina. The Air Force pilot ejected to safety; the two people aboard the Cessna were killed. I wrote about the larger challenge of separating military and civilian general-aviation aircraft here.
Today the National Transportation Safety Board released its “preliminary information” on the crash. Final NTSB assessments can take many months, often years, to complete. This preliminary report has some compelling details. A lot of attention will be paid to the sequence described here.
The F-16 is making a practice instrument approach to Charleston airport, on a path that turns out to directly intersect with the Cessna’s as it is taking off from the small-Berkley County airport:
