Peter King claims Sean Payton is on the hotseat

(Rotoworld)SI's Peter King mentioned that 2015 could be coach Sean Payton's last season with the Saints.
Analysis: We doubt King has been told anything about Payton's seat being hot; it's simply just common sense. The Saints are coming off their second 7-9 season in three seasons, which sandwiched an 11-5 campaign that saw them lose in the Divisional Round in 2013. GM Mickey Loomis made sweeping changes to the roster and the team's identity this offseason, suggesting the Saints want to become tougher. Payton might need playoff success to secure his job for 2016, but it's hard to see the Saints actually firing the coach that pulled the franchise out of the gutter.

the writer does realize that Payton wasn't around for one of those seasons, right?

After the abortion that the NFC South was last year, I can see almost every single coach on the hot seat. That being said, it would be an idiotic move to fire Payton. I don't know what coach you would be able to get that is better, and you'd lose one of the smartest offensive minds in the game.

Peter King is running out of stuff to make up.... Er I mean write about this summer

That's not what Peter King meant. He thinks Payton will leave for another job because Parcells never stayed anywhere too long. Still dumb conjecture(Belichick and Coughlin haven't gone anywhere) but he could say he called it in the slim chance it happens.

they aren't going to pay him $16 million to not coach.

wasn't he not the head coach for one of those 7-9 seasons?

One hundred percent correct. Anyone who doesn't read it this way has serious reading comprehension issues.

Peter King is Roger Goodell's peter king.

This guy has had it in for The Saints since the Vicodin lockeroom scandle.
Sean Payton being on the hot seat is pure rubbish. King is stooping to Glen Gilbeau levels of journalism

This line doesn't suggest Payton might leave, it suggests he might get fired:

Because Rotoworld did a terrible job of summing up King's stupid thoughts. From the MMQB:
If I had to guess somebody at Rotoworld heard what King said then read the first line of his blurb(or didn't read it at all)and missed the point.
quote:
The message in the organization is clear: The Saints must get significantly better on defense to be competitive in a strong NFC this year. Not the NFC South; the division is relatively weak, and there's no reason a flawed team can't win it. But winning the NFC in what might be Payton's last year in New Orleans—he'll deny even thinking about it, but his mentor in the coaching business is wanderlusting Bill Parcells—will take a major upgrade on defense. And in toughness.

No he didn't. He suggested this could be his last year, but I took it as he may leave after this year... Said nothing to suggest he was on the hotseat per se.

I don't think there's a "hot seat" per se, but if we have another season of underachieving, no leadership, an apparent lack of urgency, and a locker room run by a bunch of knuckleheads, both parties maybe could use a change of scenery. Sometimes you just get too burnt out after a while and people start to tune you out. It happened with other coaches as good or better than Payton.
The offseason moves are a sign that that might not happen.
