They are heavy and not as sensitive as most others. They tough as hell, though.

Light, strong, and cheap. You can only pick two.

Couldn't feel a bite if Jaws hit it.

They cast like telephone poles

I've caught more fish than I can count or remember on an UGLY STIK.
It aint the pole fellas.

Good for big drum and large reds in the pass
Not good for worm fishing bass or tight lining for trout or small catfish in rivers
Not sensitive at all but have good backbone

You could catch fish with a tree limb if you wanted to. Doesn't make it a good fishing pole.

Please send all your unwanted Ugly Stiks to me for proper disposal.

Of course you can catch on them, and I certainly have, but when you're casting all day, having something lightweight is crucial for stamina. If you wanna sit on the bank with a dead shrimp all day waiting on a bite, they're perfect, but anything more than that and they become a PITA.

Was coming here to post this. They are great for $60.

They're great for what they are. They're pretty cheap and tough. Expensive rods are much lighter and more sensitive than ugly sticks, but they're not intended to compete with each other.

Can't feel as much with them, but I grew up using them. People also probably look down on then like Yeti owners look down on superior Coleman owners (because they're cheap)

I like the tiger rods for anchor fishing for catfish. Id go with something nicer if I were holding it all day but the backbone is great when I hook a good one

When I was little everybody used to ask me if my dad beat me with one. I'd be like, no he uses a belt, wtf?
Posted on 6/23/15 at 1:50 pm to cypressbrake3
Because they Are cheap heavy fiberglass rods with horrible action but you can't break them. Their claim to fame.
Posted on 6/23/15 at 1:53 pm to cypressbrake3
They work well for trolling for salmon...but that's about it IMHO. They're clunky but indestructible.

Yeah, I got an Ugly Stick "light"....it ain't. Got the carpal tunnel after fishing with it for a day, plus the handle is too damn long.
