He takes a shot at Greg Norman too.

“I’m standing in the most beautiful state in the world, Washington, Seattle, unbelievably beautiful, and we play this US Open, this great championship… but this has been the most unpleasant golf tournament I’ve seen in my life."
quote:
“The man who designed this course had to have had one leg shorter than the other. It’s hard to believe you see a man miss the green by one yard and the ball ends up 50 yards down in the rough. Imagine, this is a public golf course. This is where we try to encourage people to come out and play and get more people to play the game…it’s actually a tragedy."
quote:
“They’re taking a beautiful golf course, making undulating greens, bunkers in front of the greens, and the folks are resigning from clubs… we don’t want to see that. We’ve got to promote it in the right way. Professional golf has never been so healthy. But we’re in trouble amateur-wise.”
quote:
But Player had a message for the likes of Greg Norman, who congratulated Davis for “a great set-up” live on air. “It’d be a wonderful thing if we could take the announcers that are announcing on this tournament and give them a lie detector and see if they’re telling the truth on television,” Player said. “I’d love that.”

Who gives a shite about Gary player. He's old and when he talks I want to punch him right in the face.

Do he and Sergio hang out in the evenings?

Gary is spot on. And although Greg can't agree on air, he knows it.

Considering how Gary is one of the great international ambassadors of the game, I think his opinion means a little something.

Gary Player is one of the greats. He has been a advocate for the game longer than anyone. His Opinion is correct. It makes for great tv but is tough to say it promotes the game other than a novilty.

You mean Mr. Apartheid. Player is a holier than thou POS.
Posted on 6/20/15 at 9:13 pm to EastNastySwag
Does that make any of what he said any less true/valid, or are you just saying that because you think someone cares?
Posted on 6/20/15 at 9:16 pm to BayouBengals03
Hell, on TV the course looks like a dried-out cow pasture.
Posted on 6/20/15 at 9:17 pm to EastNastySwag
Yes. Sure. Because he is from SA and came to fame when they were a racist country makes him a POS. what an incredibly uneducated narrow minded opinion. May want to do some research before you label him as racist.

Gary is the man. We played in a ProAm with him earlier this year and he was great to play with. Definitely likes to hear himself talk but told some great stories. Still hits the ball great for his age.

The only thing I don't like about this course is that it doesn't really reward "good shots".
You can hit a ball dead center of the fairway and it rolls 50 yards left or right into a bunker. Same with a approach shot. You can stick it 5ft from the pin, but it has so many slopes and levels that it will roll 25yards into a bunker.
Some of that is the course, but it has a lot to do with the pin placement. The greens are huge so they have a lot of areas to put the pin. But seems like they put them in spots with a tiny landing zone and massive slopes all around it.
But I like everything else about the course. And I mean everyone plays on the same course.

Player is largely right in what he said.
Glad to see someone have the balls to say CB is a clown course.
Weiskopf and Norman know it too, they just can't say it.

I expect to see a wind mill on the green on 18 for the final round

Did Gary mention how many push-ups he had done that day?
Posted on 6/20/15 at 10:18 pm to NorthGAVol
I agree with Gary regarding bifurcation of the rules for pros and amateurs. It would make the game a lot more enjoyable, faster, and more affordable.
I also think some of the criticism of Chambers is warranted. However, great courses yield great players, playing their best.... Right now, three Top 10 players in the world are tied for the lead.
Chambers played a lot better late this evening. They should leave 18 a par 5 tomorrow. Would likely make for an epic finish.

quote:Actually, most of the "official" greens are much smaller than they look on TV. You can't really tell the difference between the fairway and greens with the type of grass and cut being the same. In person there are small white dots that outline the green and one of the biggest complaints has been the limited place to put pins on the severely sloped greens.
The greens are huge so they have a lot of areas to put the pin.
quote:Same thing with the Open Championship yet no one complains on those links courses.
