Cavs shopping 24th pick and Brendan Haywood's non-guaranteed deal

Haywood and 24
If they don't intend to bring back Love, would they be interested in Anderson? Would you give up Anderson for 24? Haywood is $10.5M non-guaranteed, so the salaries should work.

I do not understand NBA salary cap, but why would we have to take on Haywood? Why couldn't we just free up that space if we were going to dump Anderson.

Says they are looking for facilitators. Evans? A lot depends on how Gentry/Demps wants to build the roster. A trade of Evans for Haywood would open up another $10.7 million of cap room (ptting us in the $17 million range for a run at a top FA. The 24 pick does not have a lot of value though.

No. I wouldn't do that deal. I think Anderson can greatly flourish in Gentry's system. Matter of fact, I think the team is great almost as is for Gentry. One of the things I would look to acquire is a big who has some type of coordination that can run and catch the ball and finish around the rim.

If the right player falls to 24, trading Anderson for a pick and a voidable contract can make sense. But I don't think the team will make any moves that makes them worse, so as much as posters and bloggers seem to love Justin Anderson, is anyone we pick at 24 going to have much of an impact this year? Keeping that in mind, moving Anderson for about $1.5 million in guaranteed salary would give you about $12-$13 in cap space if you don't bring back Asik. Probably not enough to get a Tyson Chandler, but could you get Koufos and Gerald Green? Possibly, but it'd be tight. But Ryno + Asik for Koufos + Green + #24 is a win.

How much cap space would we have if we did the Ryno for Haywood and 24th pick swap? If it's enough to go after Carrol, I'd have to pull the trigger

On it's own it does nothing for cap space. Combined with not resigning Asik you get around $12-$13 million.

I would absolutely adore watching Tyreke and LeBron play together.

I would be very tempted to do this if a few things occurred.
1. Justin Anderson was on the board. Or Delon Wright or RJ Hunter possibly too
2. I knew by talking to Asik's people that I could bring him back for around 10 mil next year
3. I knew I could flip the non-guaranteed contract for a solid rotation player or two on a 1 year deal. Imagine agreeing to take Jarrett Jack's contract off the Nets hands and they give you Plumlee too.
4. Then, you don't have to extend Cole the QO and you have more cap room to get Carroll or Danny Green.
If you did the transactions in the right order, you could walk out with a rotation of:
Jrue/Jack/D. Wright
Reke/Gordon
Carroll/Q-Pon
AD/Cunningham
Asik/Plumlee

Why?
Couldn't we shed Ryno, cut Haywood's non-guaranteed portion, sign other players with the cap space, and then re-sign Asik?

If Dell and Gentry are onboard than I am on board. I didn't follow the NBA and CBB enough this past year to even know who is in the draft.

I doubt that's enough for Chandler, but i'd like him on this team.

Looks like it might not be enough for Carroll
I think Brandon Wright is the center we need, somewhat cheap and athletic and would flourish in an uptempo offense.
I'd be fine with Koufas
I'd be fine with Seraphin or Biyomba at a real cheap rate if it meant we upgraded at SF b/c of the price cut.

I don't get why so many people want players on contracts in between MLE and max particularly ones that are closer to the max side. It seems like those contracts are just awful especially for role players and always handcuff teams in the future.

Asik's cap hold is $12.5 million. Dumping Ryno's $8.5 gives you less usable cap space than Asik, which isn't enough to give up exceptions.

How do you get enough cap space for Carroll? You've turned Ryno into Jack and Plumlee, a wash, and resigned Asik for $10. The only salary you give up is Cole's $3 QO.

No brainer. We'd have a shot at DC.
Cavs can do better. They will leverage teams against each other.

It's my bad. I was doing this exercise with Gordon in mind instead of Ryno, but then someone said Ryno and I got all turned around early in the morning.
Basically, I would love to do this for Gordon, maybe Tyreke, and maybe Ryno. All kinds of possibilities open up. But there is a possibility of striking out too since you have to agree to this before FA.
It's a risky move. Regardless, I would do it for Gordon for sure. The other two I would have to think about and look into other possibilities.

I would trade Evans for the 24th pick and Haywood in a heartbeat. Sure it would hurt us this year, but looking forward to the 2016 free agent class, it would give us the space to find a star to pair with AD.
