Just read through the thread. A lot of my favorites already listed multiple times
Wild and Wonderful Whites
Dear Zachary
The Imposter
PBS documentaries
Any North Korean documentary
like some stated earlier: you have to watch the Vice documentaries and the scientology documentary
However, I can't believe Rich Hill was only listed twice in the thread. FANTASTIC documentary on rural American poverty. I guess it had such a hard impact on me because my parents do so much international mission work and donating instead of anything domestic.

Shut up little man!
I can't even explain this one well... It is about some guys who audio recorded their crazy neighbors for years.
YES!!!
I am a documentary junkie, especially the odd and absurd. This documentary is AWESOME! If you liked it, you should also check out Winnebago man. Some guy sees some Winnebago sales video outtakes, and tracks the guy down. It's pretty epic.

If you want to watch some auteur stuff, check out Ross McElwee or Varda. They are artsy, but pretty good. These are really artsy, really abstract, tons of subtext, not for everyone, not an easy watch.
Errol Morris is my favorite and does a great job of being an auteur and being ridiculously entertaining.

Didn't read every page so apologies if already mentioned.
Boy Interrupted-sobering look at bipolar disorder
Couple of music ones, Last Days Here, Lemmy, Anvil:The Story of Anvil, Sound City, A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica (more of a home video but it's badass).
Nick Broomfield's docs have received criticism but Kurt and Courtney and his 2 docs on Aileen Wournos are nonetheless enthralling

Recently watched Project Nim on HBO GO. I thought it was a pretty solid documentary, but I'm a sucker for animal docs.

Harland County USA. Great documentary about the coal mine strike in Harland, Kentucky in the 1970's. It's phenomenal.

An Honest Liar
quote:
AN HONEST LIAR is a feature documentary about the world-famous magician, escape artist, and world-renowned enemy of deception, James ‘The Amazing’ Randi. The film brings to life Randi’s intricate investigations that publicly exposed psychics, faith healers, and con-artists with quasi-religious fervor. A master deceiver who came out of the closet at the age of 81, Randi created fictional characters, fake psychics, and even turned his partner of 25 years, the artist Jose Alvarez, into a sham guru named Carlos. But when a shocking revelation in Randi’s personal life is discovered, it isn’t clear whether Randi is still the deceiver – or the deceived.
