Haven't been to Ft. Walton in 25 years....

Since spring break in the late 80's and it has completely changed...
We're staying at Water Scape, which was where the Holiday in was, and the "famous" Ramada is now a Sheraton Four Points....
Cash's Feaux Pas is now a strip club, and the Green Frog no longer exist... But, Sammy's is still going strong...
All those "Airline Highway" motels like the Carrosel, and the Driftwood are now all condos along Santa Rosa... Even the Blue Horrizon is gone....
The Spring Breakers now go to Panama City, and Ft Walton is more family oriented, with nothing but expensive condos.... Wow have times changed....

Yeah it's a pretty nice place for a family vacation if you're too poor to do Maui

Eglin NCO Club used to have the nicest stretch of beach along there, bar none.

Wow. A place changed in a quarter of century?

Is the Islander still there? Or the Breakers?

The Blue wHor is gone? Say it ain't so! The threat of STDs probably dropped 25% when that thing was sold!!

Same here.

We used to stay at the Holiday Inn. Did they tear it down completely and start over? Or renovate? I remember the sliding glass doors.

Progress. This is a good thing.

Good.

May reconsider Ft. Walton again. We have been going to Naples, simply because of the slower pace that we prefer.

I don't know. Last time I drove thru the Destin/FW area I was horrified by how developed it was. I never thought they'd put condos past Jetty East. But they damn well did. I'd prefer a slower pace and fewer high rises myself.

Cash's Baw
That guy was printing money in the mid 80's.
Owned most bars/ liquor stores in that area and controlled liquor distribution in Ft Walton.
Had a gun fight once too, or something in his store and killed some dude.

Yeah, the old Ft. Walton days. Waterscape is overpriced. We sometimes stay in Ft. Walton and always eat dinner in Destin.

Cool part about it, they don't allow any buildings over 6 stories, so there's no high rises like Destin...

I haven't been to FW since 1990 Spring Break either. Holy crap that was 8-9 days of awesomeness which included Cash's FP almost nightly.

Islander is still there. I think Breakers is as well.

I may be mistaken, but nobody really goes to Ft Walton anymore, unless they are passing through on their way to the island or Destin. I'd only over go for the mall our the movies, and with the Carmike and the Commons in Destin, there's no point now.

Naples/Marco Island are the best vacation spots along the GOM. IMO

Love okaloosa island in FW. Stayed at island echoes, island princess, gulf dunes and are staying at a different one this year. Reasonably priced and family oriented which is what we prefer. Short drive to destin.
