re: Miles says Harris was ill-prepared by the coach for the Auburn start

There was zero point to putting him in the Auburn game when they distrusted his passing and never intended to allow him to do it. As I saw it, Brandon took a giant blow to his confidence in that first half, administered by his own coaches. They set him up to fail.
Certainly one of Les's worst coaching performances.

Jennings' performance the week before was about as bad as a QB can play. Just awful - and against New Mother fricking Mexico State! Miles had no choice but to play Harris after he came into that game and lit it up, and made it close the week before.
To me that tells me that before MSU/NMSU, Miles truly believed that Jennings was his guy, and he never contemplated the possibility that Harris would be needed for the long term.
I really like Miles, but he gets tunnel vision when it comes to QBs. If it doesn't come naturally, he doesn't adjust like he should. And then he compounded the problem by yanking Harris when he should have bit the bullet and rode him the rest of the year.

He was injured in the Auburn game

frank herron will be the qb. he's only gotten better since his phenominal fall camp of 2014.

I called it before the game that he would handcuff Harris and put him under center and Harris would play terrible and we'd be down 17-0 before we knew it. It was all so predictable.
Thanks Coach!

quote:I would normally tend to agree with this comment, but I have a feeling that Miles is really opening up to Harris as the guy. If the coaches hamstrung Harris in his start at AU - we all know they did - and Les is owning up to in now, it could be setting the table.
Jennings is the starter until he graduates. Period. He is Leslie's new pet.

what about Harris pass against Kentucky that got him benched for the year?
Posted on 5/19/15 at 4:52 pm to TigerBait1127
Well whenever he was healthy enough. He did play against Kentucky and Alabama and maybe in another game. If he wasn't healthy that is understandable.
If the coaching staff played him against Kentucky and Alabama when he wasn't healthy enough, then that is on them.

Miles original plan was to use Jennings as a stop-gap last season in order to get Harris prepared for 2015. When Jennings stunk it up so horrifically bad he decided to throw caution to the wind and let Harris have the keys. He tried to protect him and it backfired with the Auburn game so he shelved him in favor of his original plan. Harris has responded and will start Week 1 leading LSU to the CFB Playoffs and a NC. That's what I'm going with anyway.

So Les is throwing Cam under the bus
Your brain is a few cards shy of a full deck, huh.
The coach would be Miles, bro. The OC would be Cam. I pity anyone not able to figure that simple shite out.

That does not mean Les is to blame...he HAD to play Harris coming off the NM St game and bringing him to speed was a tough chore. I just wish he would have played him more down the stretch, but all will be forgiven if he gives him the keys this year

This is so shocking that LSU has an ill prepared QB
Not to say LSU has done a stellar job of preparing QBs, but Harris was a true freshman QB, who ran a spread offense in HS, starting his first game on the road against a good SEC team. No one would be fully ready for that.
Miles saying the staff didn't prepare him well enough to succeed shows how much confidence they have in him, and that Jennings is far from being some kind of guaranteed starter.

Every single bit of this
Miles is just stubborn in general, not just to QBs. He is patient almost to a fault. He learns some things the hard way.

Don't laugh. More of this is probably true than you think. The only things I would add is that Harris' injury and lack of playbook mastery basically sealed the deal for him in 2014. I don't believe in any way Miles thinks AJ is the hope of the future (though his improvement would be a big plus) but instead it was our only option given Harris aforementioned issues. I fully expect Harris to end up running the show at the right time- probably this season.

And you would still want him fired if we ended up going winless in sec play.

This is impossible. The Les apologists told me Harris was spoiled and expected everything to be handed to him and didn't prepare on his own enough.
I'm sure they'll be along shortly to say Les is just knighting for Harris.
