Was it with the time and money? I've been hearing Six Sigma being thrown around lately at oil/gas conferences although it's not necessarily a new concept.

Have a few friends that got their PMP certification and they seemingly don't know how to run a large project, very academic and doesn't seem practical in the real world.

Don't have the cert but I have worked with some people in "training" for their "6s belts". It's a big deal in some heathcare IT depts I've encountered.

Seems like a waste of time and a bunch of bs to me.

15 years ago a lot of time and money was spent to implement the process here where I work. They tried a little too hard to drive the methodolgy into every scenario that came up. Now we use it a lot more loosely, but it does have some advantages from years of using it.
Plus if you were a certified Black Belt it meant more money for you. Plus more headache.

Where I work it's almost a requirement for advancement. Not really geared towards what I do but I had to take the course and get certified.

Green belt, old job had a free program. The concepts were pretty logical, but it really is specialized for high volume applications. If you are in an industry where one failure can be catastrophic, then the concepts are certainly useful, but the structure useless.

All in all I would say that it is a good course to take if for no other reason than to get the good production principals back in the front of your mind. The steps/processes to get the cert area joke though.

Don't pay for the certifications. HUGE waste of $$$

Plenty of companies send their EE's for this training.

Even if you have the training, when you go to a new company you will more than likely have to sit through THEIR training.

Most things are. But you just have to lie to yourself and get the raise.

The company I work for has its own Six Sigma program. They wasted the time and money not me.

I do.

I was on a team at work that did process improvement and they paid for me to get it.

Required where I work.

It has its place, but it's being bastardized. It's a waste of time and resources in my position, but it isn't an option here.

I shot a Six Sigma once. It's a very cool gun but I didn't get a certificate.
