Sac-a-Lait "Review" with Pics

My wife and I took my MIL to Sac-a-Lait - LINK for Mother’s Day. It’s pretty new and the only other thread on it was this one – LINK so I decided to do a pic-heavy “review.” I’m not on the foodie level as many here, and I have no experience, professional or amateur, with reviewing restaurants. We definitely over-ordered on purpose so that we could try a few extra things. Here is my/our take…
Overall, the food was very good and I would recommend others to give it a try. I think the prices are still a little high, but not as bad as they were when they first opened or when they posted their menu online before they opened (see linked thread above). If I were sending someone to NOLA for the first time, I don’t think this would be on my short list of places to send them over the weekend, but I wouldn’t tell them to stay away.
Also, in general, I think they need to kind of “find themselves.” The waiter touted the restaurant a lot during the service, almost to the point of insecurity. He mentioned that they were going to cook at the James Beard house and that they had served Donald Trump and some others a meal or two at an event. Also, they served us complementary fried chicken feet and it was an obvious (and admitted) attempt to just get customers talking about the restaurant (I suppose it’s working )
A pic of the inside – kind of a “modern rustic” décor if that’s a thing.
The menu – we didn’t know they had a “brunch” service but it was fine and pretty similar to their menu online
The beer menu was cool because it’s a map of the region, but they apparently stopped carrying all of their cans and bottles
Complimentary fried chicken feet – I’ve never had chicken feet but wasn’t afraid to try it. Not sure this is the best way to do it though. You pretty much were just eating soggy breading and trying not to eat a talon. However, the buffalo sauce and blue cheese were delicious. I would definitely enjoy some regular wings in that stuff.
There might be better char-grilled oysters elsewhere, but these were the best I’ve ever had. We all loved them. As a plus, the bread was perfect. Toasted and warm but soft enough to soak up the buttery goodness.
I ordered the Backstrap Biscuit. It was as rich as it looks with the gravy but delicious. Would definitely order it again.
Wife got the crawfish roll. This was everyone’s least favorite dish. Too much bread, and while “unique”, it was kind of a novelty. I say “unique” with quotation marks because the waiter loved to describe everything as “unique” during the entire service.
MIL ordered the Blue Fish and Grits. Pretty tasty although I didn’t get much of it. She loved it.
Shared some fries. They were some of the better fancy fries I’ve ever had. The honey and spices were a pretty cool addition. The dipping sauce was a fake Cane’s sauce and didn’t add anything.
Shared the Alligator & Mirliton dish. It was good, but I was already stuffed when I got around to tasting it and barely ate any. The ladies both loved it and it competed for their favorite bite.
We didn’t order dessert but here is a picture of the menu.

Thanks for the review with pics.
Maybe it's just me but those food pictures don't look very enticing to me. Maybe the fries.

Nice pics and review.
This place just doesn't do anything for me. Was that a brunch menu? I wonder if the dinner menu has the higher prices I remember seeing before.
I don't view a "taste/amuse bouche" as some kind of ploy. It's a standard practice at many good/established restaurants.

Yeah it was a brunch menu, but a lot of it was the same or similar to their dinner menu. I think the higher prices dropped a little but it's still not cheap.

I don't know if "ploy" is the right word, but the practice wasn't the issue at all. It was the choice of food. The waiter specifically said that the chicken foot was something "unique" that they purposely served new customers so that they could get them talking about the restaurant. It didn't really bother me at all. Just thought they could have executed something better to get people talking

Obligatory... 10/10 would drink ghost over going to sac-a-lait again though.
Too bad they didn't have ghost on that sweet beer map menu

I would much rather them call it White Perch. But it beats the hell out of Crappie. Nice review..

Don't know but the $18 foie gras and quail egg & blackberry biscuit at Beausoleil is going to be tough to beat.

That's about $588 cheaper than I pay per wild backstrap.
