Seems like this professor thinks students shouldn't be able to decide to use some of their own money paid to the university for things that students voted in favor of.

Cope admits the cost of the construction of the "lazy river" doesn't impact the university directly, but feels the university should set a better example.

He sounds like a bitch.

They make enough off of having cars towed to pay the teachers.

Once they find out you can't booze it up in the Lazy River, opinions will change

where is the money coming from? How much does that pool costs?

With budget cuts coming, may not be the best thing to spend six figures on.

They shouldn't. That's like your company telling you where to spend your paycheck each week.

I think the professor is the one being "childish" here. This last comment was not necessary.

He is a bitch but I don't really disagree with him on that point.

He's very much a stereotypical academic that thinks non academics are lesser humans.

Seriously? This is an actual project?

Who is the idiot who came up with that stupid idea?

That may be one of the dumbest ideas Scruffy has ever heard of.

College students are morons.

Let's look at it objectively though: It serves the same purpose as a tanning deck, or shallow area in a pool for sunbathing.

And he's not complaining about that...which is a big part of that outside layout.

Cope is a blowhard, but if I were still a student I'd be kind of pissed about this. That being said, if the students actually voted to self impose the fee increase, why should anyone stop it from happening.

But hey, I recall the students voting against a fee increase for the Union renovations, but that still passed. Last time I checked, the administration is under no obligation to follow SG recommendations or student votes.

Even if the funding was separate, if you've ever owned a pool then you know there are significant costs to maintaining it.

Who foots the bill when pumps break down, when it needs to be cleaned seasonally, or when it's time for resurfacing?

seems like i remember some Dekes running for SGA prez on the platform of disbanding the SGA and using the $100K annual funding to purchase a yacht for all students, to be docked on the LSU Lakes.

They got a good number of votes, but not enough.

If the students are anything like when I was there, a short 5 years ago, then frick no I don't want them deciding.
