Arm talent means a whole lot more than velocity. It also encompasses movement, accuracy, placement, and consistency. Ya know, all the things greg Maddux had a ton of. BTW, Maddux could throw harder than 91 if he wanted to.
Well of course it does. I never said it was only about velocity. Youre getting more into pitching talent rather than arm talent when you start talking about consistency and accuracy, just like youre getting more into more quarterbacking talent when you start talking about accuracy and consistency, something someone like Drew Brees has in spades. They are not exactly the same thing and are clearly distinguishable. The point is, Mettenberger has more arm talent than about 75% of the league, including some of the elite QB's.

Yup, and when Mariotta gets his opportunity and decides to try and hit the corner against a guy like Watt his season will be over.
What's the likelihood then this same fate happens to Mett? So you're now down 2 QBs and left with... Whitehurst??

Alex Tanney is listed the the 4th QB on their roster. At that point they would probably sign some journeyman like the immortal Jason Campbell

Lotta trolls in this thread. Evidently Mett is Tim Tebow
In a few years, he could grow into a top half of the league QB. He's got a cannon and can place the ball with the best of them. With a good o-line that lets him stand in the pocket and make throws, he can make it rain. He can't move for shite, but he usually makes smart decisions with the ball.
It was a terrible decision by the Titans to take Mariota and leave the king's ransom on the table like he's some kind of can't-miss-once-in-a-generation prospect.

I doubt that was really on the table.

Has it ever been proven that this rumor about the Philly offer was more than just to create draft hype?
Posted on 5/8/15 at 3:32 pm to ProfessionalAmateur
Well what kind of proof could there possibly be? Only way to know for sure is to hear it from Chip Kelly, and he would never admit to it.

Agree with this. Unfortunately for him everyone will say yep, he was a bust when he fizzles out like Joey did.

Seems like the players have a lot more faith in Mettenberger than the coaches and front office does.
That's your spin, huh?

What I've read here so far, people have put a lot of faith in these rumors as truth. I understand why though. I personally don't think MM is going to be named starter right away, Mett will be given enough opportunity to start again this year. Seems like too many are already saying it's been decided. Mariota could be a complete frick-up and everybody would be happy to be back where we started.

It's his job to lose.

I understand the pick, Marcus apparently came back and owned the minicamp playbook Whisenhunt gave him at the first meeting, and TN desperately needs some excitement for a fed-up fanbase.
The worry for me is all the prior misses in the draft he'll have to overcome. After years of top picks and free agents, the o-line is still a problem. With Hyde on the board last year they took Bishop Sankey, who didn't produce. The d-line is just as troubling, and they need somebody to get to Luck for any kind of chance.
He seems like a great kid and I wish him the best, which is the same thing I said about Locker.

Well, the head coach came and said it. That must be why.

I don't doubt the kid's intelligence. I would expect a top 5 QB to be a whiz with the playbook. Memorizing the playbook is one thing.
Actually utilizing the playbook during the game is where he will struggle. There's simply a muscle memory which comes with learning a different offense. He's going to be thinking out there, when he needs to be reacting. Eliminating the thinking is something that only comes with reps. That's a phase that all athletes go through and those that have already played in a pro-style offense are far ahead of him in that facet of the game.
Rodgers, Brady, Manning, they aren't thinking when they're out there. They've run through those progressions so many times that they just react. That only comes from being in a situation so many times that your brain immediately knows what your body needs to do.

Missed that one.
Who was the last impact player the Titans got in free agency? Feels like their only way to improve is through the draft, and that is going so poorly in recent years too.
Posted on 5/8/15 at 5:23 pm to Goldrush25
Yeah, can't argue with those concerns - you can add calling out live-fire verbage instead of looking to the sidelines. It'd just be drag if he was able to transition but couldn't tow a bad team to wins. Part of me hoped Kelly would get him.
Posted on 5/8/15 at 5:37 pm to Goldrush25
If you say it enough times, it becomes true.

I don't really agree with what we did in the Draft but I don't think it was a colossal frick up either
I would've had us either trade the pick for a pile of picks or take a linemen with it. I could even be ok with taking Amari Cooper even though that isn't a spot of need but I think Cooper could end up being incredibly special but regardless what you take, if you stick with Mett and get valuable players other than Mariota you either
A) discover Mett is a franchise guy and is the QB you were looking for
B) discover Mett sucks and end up with another top 5 draft pick in the next several years and will have a shot at a franchise QB in drafts that are presumably deeper than this one at that position
And I will say I feel like due to certain biases many posters on this board act like Mett has proven himself to be a serviceable NFL QB and while I like Mett he has done nothing of the sort
