Why is chips track record considered awesome in the nfl again? A team that didny make the playoffs and a team that let the saints win a road game. He may be awesome but his nfl resume is over rated as frick cause i guess hes a likeable guy

No doubt. Just look at all of the replies in this thread that have said so.

His QBs do not.
None of his college QBs were considered the type of NFL prospect like Mariotta, and he has done pretty well with his pro-QBs. I mean Sanchez looked pretty good last year; that should mean something.

I haven't been able to have a rational conversation on my team's draft yet because the LSU/Mett factor.

This is the NFL. You are not succeeding without a franchise QB. I watched every one of Mett's throws last season. The fact that anyone is so sure about him being a better QB than Mariotta is mind boggling.

It's really not. Personally i'd say it's a toss up but it's not that ridiculous of a statement. You probably spent way too much time watch Mett throw and not watching Mariota throw. Because Mett is clearly the better passer. He's just a complete statue. Mariota can easily be a bust. I dont think it should even be a surprise if it happens.

and Mettenberger is awful.

What games were you watching? Mett did pretty well as a rookie with no offensive line. Guy can make all the throws and his receivers know it too. Sure, he's not Joe Montana, but at WORST he's serviceable and can lead the team to some wins. If this was Andrew Luck I'd understand the pick, but it wasn't.

I live in Nashville and surrounded by disappointed Titans fans from the Mariota pick. Mett is liked here and was expected to be the starter next year.

They need like 3 OLs and instead bought a QB that has never played pro-style football. They should have built the team up and gone with Mett at least another year on his rookie 6th round contract and seen what they can get at QB next year if they really want to move on still.

Well it would look bad on that franchise anyway if Mariota does not start being the #2 pick and all.

I'm not sure that Mett is better than Mariotta at all, in fact I think Mariotta will probably be better, but I think Mett still is good enough to be a franchise QB. What I am sure about is that the Titans did not get better by drafting Mariotta because they have holes everywhere.

There are a lot of teams in the NFL that would gladly take Mett over what they currently have. He isn't a bum, he just needs a better O-line than what the Titans have.

First, the Mett factor is a big reason why a lot of people question the pick, not just LSU fans. Second, if you are concerned about a possible LSU bias on an LSU fan site, get over it or find a decent Gump board to post on.

Again, you're moving the goal posts. Nobody in this entire thread has said that Mett is unequivocally a better QB. The fact that people aren't sure that Mariotta is a clear upgrade tells you that they would have been better served using that pick on a position where very clear upgrades were available.

Mett isn't just a better passer, he's a WAYYY better passer.

Mett has a top 10 NFL arm strength and is a very good passer. Its his lack of feet that are terrible. If he had, say, the Cowboys OL, he'd be very good IMO.

He's also kind of fragile which is another con.

But its understandable why his WRs are pissed. He can deliver the rock very well down the field on intermediate and deep passes.

ETA:

Mariota is a MUCH better athlete. Like not even close. But he is not a great passer and has never been in a pro system. Expecting him to start next year might be a disaster. He's the kind of guy that needs a few years of tutelage IMO.

That's a lot of question marks for a #2 overall pick QB expected to start right away IMO.

It'll be nearly impossible for Mettenberger to beat out Mariota going into this season unless it's glaringly obvious that he gives them the best chance to win just because of the investment made by the Titans picking Mariota no.2 overall. That being said, I think it will be glaringly obvious that Mett will be better because he can flat out throw the football better than Mariota can. It's pretty clear that Mett already has the players on his side and would love to see what he can do now that he's finally healthy and fully recovered and has a complete year under his belt, especially being able to throw to Hunter, Wright and now Beckham.

Agree with all of that. The entire point was the Titans had so many more needs to fill. They screwed up.

But all the bama fans sees is "OMG LSU FANS THINK METT IS THE BEST QB EVAR!".

and no one even came close to saying that. kinda sad.

Agree.

Wis backed himself into a corner and HAS to start Mariota. Sucks for Mett after being told he was "the guy" and he apparently had the whole team doing offseason workouts and was really putting in the work.

Imagine being told you are the starter and you have our confidence and then instead of helping you in the draft with OL, etc. they draft your replacement who has a ton of question marks.
