Mariota ran because he had to and not because it's his game. We were terrible in pass pro.

Welcome to the Titans.
And he can't run away from the pros. And the skill player talent around him, no matter how inexperienced, was still very good in college. Not with the Titans.

I have seen Mariota for 3 years. We had more injuries to our OL last than any other year in 3 decades. We had an all new wr core and a true frosh Rb. Mariota didn't set his feet after the 1st read because it was Run, Mariota, Run. He masked a ton of deficiencies
I'm not disputing any of that. But it's not getting any easier.
He was always going to have a learning curve but now he's already being pressured to be a starter. I really don't know what the Titans are thinking. Again, I believe the move came from ownership and not Whisenhunt or his scouts.
Mariota's one of those guys that really needs that old-school treatment of sitting for 3-4 years behind a vet. Maybe they'll come to their senses about that.

The best attribute of Marcus are his brain and work ethic. He will out work everyone and he processes things better than anyone out there.

You think successful QB's in this league aren't almost all psycho about their work ethic?
He's not an outlier in NFL at QB if he works his arse off, he's the norm.

Again, in college he did well at this in his Oregon system. He has to learn an entirely new style of play.
I don't wish poorly on the kid, he seems like a great guy and I think he could be a good QB in the NFL.
He's not Andrew Luck and the Titans are still fricking stupid for taking a QB with question marks #2 when their team blows at 10 other positions.

I think the Bucs and Titans will be disappointed with their QB draft picks in the end. IMO both have talent but were way over hyped.

I am not saying the Titans didn't pick poorly. I am talking to the noob that said he was propped up as 1st round talent by the Nfl. If I were a GM, I probably wouldn't draft qbs in the 1st round.

Me either, at least not top 15 unless it was Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, etc. (fricking Colts )
Once in a decade guys.
I would probably trade down for several proven players and a few 2nd rounders or something unless I was enamored with an OT or DE.

The work ethic is the only reason he has a shot in hell at being a serviceable QB. I don't think it places him in elite QB territory or anywhere close to it.
You don't think Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning have the same work ethic that Mariota has? But they also have thousands of reps in pro-style schemes. You can't just make up for that lack of experience by just working hard. It's just going to take time, time he doesn't have.

That's where I do agree with you.
He needs to get in an Aaron Rodgers situation where he can learn for a bit. He has talent, work ethic, and brain, he just doesn't need to be thrown to the wolves his rookie year behind a wet paper towel OL.
I really am rooting for him, I hope this year doesn't ruin him.

Aren't they adapting the scheme? We'll see. Mariota will get me watching the Nfl again. I am really intrigued to see how he transitions.

I'm not sure that Mett is better than Mariotta at all, in fact I think Mariotta will probably be better, but I think Mett still is good enough to be a franchise QB
To me the discussion isn't really even just about who's better. It's about the fact that you completely whiffed on a chance to stack your team with talent and instead chose to choose just another QB. QB isn't their problem, no talent anywhere else is.

Bucs took Jameis Winston because not only does he have the potential to be a starter in the NFL but because he can go create huge buzz in the community. Winston is going to sell tickets and mdse big time being in the "Florida State" market. That was a smart pick for the financial security of the organization and he is a pretty talented QB.
Titans tried to so the same thing with Mariota but it's a square peg round hole. He won't generate tickets and mdse sales right off the back cause there is no Oregon fanbase in Tenneessee so he will have to win them over with wins. And based on that roster and the huge learning curve he's going to have to overcome switching systems and developing an entirely new way to play QB, it has disaster written all over it.
He's not going to win with the roster they have, and without winning, the ticket and mdse sales won't be there which may cause the Titans front office to ditch the project too soon. Mariota is a project and they have to treat it as such. Or dangle him to Chip Kelly for what they can get.

Can you explain exactly what the frick "arm talent" is and how Mettenberger is top 10 in the league, because your statement seems laughable.
You not knowing what arm talent means is laughable. It's the same thing as "pure hitter" in baseball, which also should need no explanation to someone that has even a slight amount of sports knowledge, but here I'll spoon feed it to you.
Can make every throw - short dig, deep dig, post, drop the fade route in a bucket, proper touch on screens, has enough velocity and precision to zip the short out route without letting CB undercut it...you know; arm talent. Joe Flacco, Rodgers, Cutler, Stafford, Roethlisberger and Luck all have elite arm talent. Brees, Brady, Manning, Ryan and Rivers, although elite/great QB's dont have the same are talent as Joe Flacco. And yes, they dont have the same arm talent as Mettenberger who can sling it with the best of them.

This reaction is pretty meaningful...I just don't know what it means.
Players generally aren't critical of draft picks at the time of the pick.
Is there a consensus on why they reacted the way that they did? I doubt it was specifically about Mariotta? Was it about Mett? Was it about a desire to spend a pick on a different position?

So "arm talent" means they can make every throw, yet Brady and Manning don't have it and Mettenberger does?

Holy stupid son.. you should stop posting.. what a fricking idiot..lol

Mariotta probably has more upside than Mett. But regardless of who your QB is, he won't be able to do anything without a line that can keep him from running for his life.
Which is why they need a QB that can move. Mett will stay injured there.

The reason the Titans made this pick is they feel Matt isn't the answer.
Sorry LSU fans, that the truth.
Also, you can't consistently win in this league without a franchise QB anymore.
Add in the rookie wage scale, massively inflating QB free agent contracts, and it makes the most sense to draft QBs high and fill in the gaps via later rounds and free agency.
