Ive never timed it and am now trying to coordinate a specific time for my soak. Regular jet burner 100qt pot...whats your average time? seems like its about 30 min for rolling boil

My dad recently bought one of these boilers, timed it last weekend while boiling crabs and it was a hard boil in 12 minutes.

Just a fun calculation fyi:
100 qt pot = 25 gallons
1/2 full = 12.5 gallons
12.5 gallons from ~70 degrees to 212 degrees = 13,695 btus
. . . in 30 minutes = ~30,000 btu/hr
What is your jet burner's btu rating?

That's assuming just water. It'll take a bit more if he's already added seasoning. So still your 30 minute assumption is plenty of margin.

Never seen that done before. I only fill 1/3 if that.

I like the methodology, but this is assuming 100% efffeciency in the transfer of burner energy into the pot...which is not nearly correct....

It does not actually assume that. In fact, by asking the rating of the burner, I was attempting to get the number that would provide a means of getting an efficiency calculation (really just and estimate not knowing how much heat is lost from the water and the pot).
