I Finally Watched Interstellar Today (Spoilers)

I didn't really like it and, most importantly, it's definitely not a movie that I could tell somebody in good conscience that it was entertaining.
Until they find Matt Damon and the reveal that Alfred was lying about coming home, it was simply very boring. A big part of this issue was that the stakes were so big and such a slow burn, their impact was minimal. You can sell something like an asteroid coming to impact earth, requiring a space mission to save us all. It's much more difficult to sell a mission to save humanity a generation down the road. In real life? I get it. In a movie? It doesn't work as well.
Then they created conflict twice over with the Damon bullshite and the reveal about Plan A, and it came out of nowhere. It wasn't really organic and it didn't come from the plot and overall conflict. Damon's deceit was telegraphed once he was worried about them examining his robot, too.
The black hole part of the ending kind of meandered around and then admitted what had been offered: the "ghost" was him from the "future". And then it meandered on even more, when he was magically found and pleasantly got to live on a space station.
The movie was just a mess. It was very indulgent. It was a bunch of attempts at conflict and emotion thrown on a canvas hoping something stuck. It wasn't really interesting, novel, or entertaining. It did have Topher Grace, though, so that helped out some.
*ETA: and the sound mixing in the movie was absolutely terrible. I had to keep switching the volume for dialogue and fx.

it has it's flaws, but I liked the film. Watching in IMAX was just awesome.

I have to run a few errands so I just bookmarked this thread. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
I enjoyed interstellar though and it's a great movie to me. But the biggest flaw to me was Romily spending at least ten years of those 23 years alone on that spaceship. That's some castaway type shite on steroids and how he didn't go insane is a mystery to me.

Judging from your complaints, don't watch 2001.

Great description. Full of plot holes as well.

I did like it mostly, however, my two biggest problems:
Matt Damon and
The terrible deus ex machina of 5th dimensional human beings and "love," what an awful conclusion.
Like I said, I still liked the film as an experience, but the more time goes on, the more I hate the ending. And I've watched it twice since the theater (thanks near-cross country trips).

Is it on a streaming service right now?

Watching it at home was your first mistake.

I agree with this, Jake.
The rest of your post is, respectfully, a steaming pile of crap. The movie was a wonderful homage to 2001, with a couple of Nolan twists and touches. It was NOT perfect - I don't dispute that, but I cut some slack to a film that reaches pretty far and maybe just falls short in a couple of areas.

My initial reaction was Wow, what a cool movie. But now the more I read the critiques in this forum, the worse it gets.
But in retrospect, there were a number of issues both with the plot and the casting. This was not a particularly good role for Matthew McConaughey from my perspective. His mumbling under his breath gets old and his interaction with his daughter felt strained and became tiresome. I thought Matt Damon was fine as Dr. Mann. Damon is an a-hole and is good at portraying assholes.
And yea, the Plan A ploy was unnecessary melodrama. They should have just said: look, we are stuck on the gravity equation so if you happen to run into your mystery gravity buddies out in space, please let them know we need help. If you don't want to save the world by implementing Plan B, then frick you very much. Maybe we will all be reincarnated into aliens on some other world, whatever.
The whole paradox associated with future human survival being dependent on a wormhole created by future humans sucked as well. They should have just had a contingency plan for a limited survival on earth. The future humans could then have created the wormhole and assisted with Plan A (increasing the total number survivors/increasing the gene pool) without the paradox.
Come to think of it this movie did pretty much suck but I have enjoyed worse scifi movies and this one at least had some big name actors.

Great Poli Poster, BAD movie reviewer!
Really though, how someone can review Interstellar without so much as a mention of Cooper watching the videos from his kids after 20+ years on the water planet is unconscionable. That was one of the most powerful moments I've experienced in a theater.

I liked that movie a lot

I liked the movie overall, but I agree 100% with this:
Just horrid going from mumbling under the breath dialogue to speaker shaking FX. Completely unbalanced and took me out of the film multiple times having to adjust the volume.
And yeah, Matt Damon was out of place. Just came off as a little bitch.

Agreed on all counts. I love sci-fi space movies, but this was a disappointment.
