I am in the market for a new CC gun. Reliability is the most important aspect to me. My current list is (in no particular order):

Smith & Wesson M&P Shield
Ruger LC9s pro
Springfield XD-S 3.3
Glock 43
Sig P938

Any others that I am missing? All recommendations are appreciated.

Go to a range and rent them before you spend $500+ and regret your choice.
Also, check out Kahr pistols.

Love my Shield. Compared it to several others, and it just fit my hand so perfectly. Is my EDC in AlienGear holster.

I carry a Kahr CM9. It's smaller and lighter than all of those listed. But to say which is the best gun is subjective. I would say the Shield would be the best overall.

If you opt for a Shield, they can routinely be found for $339ish online, which is a steal

By the time this thread ends you're going to have a LONG list because there are a LOT of good single stack semi-auto 9mm's for concealed carry. Most everyone's going to recommend the ss 9 they use and that's only natural. Having said that, the "best" one will be determined by YOU and your criteria. A lot of fine candidates have been mentioned already, but a few good 9mm single stacks that have not been mentioned that are worthy of your consideration include: Beretta Nano, Kimber Solo, Walther PPS and Kahw CW9. Although I don't have a CW9, I have a CW45 and it has an active role in my cc rotation. You need to sit down, decide what YOUR criteria are and eliminate some contenders. No one here can tell you what your criteria are. For example, do you want an external safety lever? Do you prefer a DAO trigger (like the Kahrs and LC-9) or a striker trigger? Do you want an adjustable backstrap? You get the idea. In addition, many, but not all, of the above guns are small enough to be comfortably carried in pants pockets. This is how I usually carry my Ket-Tec PF9 during the spring and summer. Although I like the 1911 platform (heck, I cc a Commander for 20 hours yesterday), I don't like the Sig 938 for pocket carry. I think the 1911 should be carried cocked and locked. Carried this way, I worry the external hammer on the 938 might snag on the draw; plus the hammer being cocked looks like it would make a nice place for lint to get down into the frame.

Just wanted to update the thread and let yall know I tried out the xds 9, shield, lc9s pro and sig p938. I was torn between the shield and the lc9s pro but I ended up going with the Ruger. The lc9s pro has a nice trigger out of the box and was noticeably lighter than the other guns. I ran about 150 rounds through it with no jams or misfires. I was surprised at how accurate I shot with it considering how small it is. If anyone is in the market for a cc gun, you cant go wrong with the shield or the lc9s pro. Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions.
