TBH if there is any single player that I'd want to play in a shooter....it would be a fricking Star Wars single player.

I know Gardoki answered some of these, but there is absolutely a bar that you have to reach in order to be very successful mass market. While people say they don't care graphics, great graphics get people talking about your game.
The time it takes to render all of the worlds and details take more time, thus the staff has to be paid longer. Longer dev cycles and larger development staffs are why costs have risen. That and the marketing arms race that have caused publishers to spend far more than the past on it.

The first thing you see when you go to your camp was to buy some Day 1 DLC bullshite. I thought it was a joke at the time and kept clicking being assured that it was a Bioware joke......nope.

I don't play battlefield, but that's what bothered me about Titanfall. There was no real campaign to play and break up the monotony of multiplayer.

Battlefront won't have single player story...
This game is now a pass for me. MP is fun and all, but singleplayer is the other half of the fun.
I will not buy half a game.

Well this sucks.
I only play single player in all games because I'm really just not good enough at shooter games to have a good time getting killed every 10 steps I take. I enjoy playing them though, which is why I like single player campaigns.
No lie my friends have banned me from playing COD on their accounts because I always will have like 20 deaths for every 1 kill.
I really want this game still.... I guess I'm going to just have to get better now
