What I'll never understand though, is when people feel like they're "stuck" in louisiana yet do absolutely nothing to change their situation. I have no sympathy for your whining
Yea, agreed. It's almost looked down upon to leave or to want to leave here.

To that I ask, why stay?

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else other than Napa Valley.

Few years back, the wife and I took a trip down to Lower part of Fla looking at a second/retirement home. After spending a week down there, we both changed our mines quick. It sucked down there.

I complain about Louisiana, but the thought of living in the DC area again makes me want to vomit.
there are other options in the world besides DC and Louisiana
FWIW, I love living here but I'm not opposed to moving

Only 36 percent of the people in Florida are from there. Obviously have retirees, snowbirds etc

Cocodrie > Florida

I'd still rather live in the Keys. Fishing in Cocodrie is awesome, and I'd spend about 60% of my time doing that. The other 40% would be miserable. Especially in the winner months. Everything shuts down.

See around here in lake charles i feel its kinda looked down upon if you dont move to houston. seems like everyone is striving to move there. I want no part of that.
Of course when i think about who is saying those things its usually people that struggle and have no future. All my successful friends are happy as could be.

But, but, but people are leaving the rust belt in droves! Yet, the statistics show that people are more likely to stay in those states than others. I'm confused!
Those that could already left. I swear, half of Baton Rouge is from Ohio and New Jersey.

As someone who's been forced to spend a lot of time elsewhere, Louisiana is tGOAT

I have no desire to leave. I was born in NOLA, grew up in New Iberia. Spent 5 years in Baton Rouge at LSU. Moved to Lafayette after graduating and love it here.
I have traveled all over the country and world (about 20 countries). While I enjoy travelling, I always look forward to getting back home.
That's just what Louisiana is, home.

I got alot of college buddies that moved to either Houston or Lafayette (I know not out of state but away from LC). They seem happy too but for me I actually like lake charles. My wife and I travel quite a bit for vacations so for us it's the best of both worlds by seeing what's out there and living close to our family.

Disagree, Cocodrie is way better than Florida.

link shows more CA natives stay(75%) than La(71%). Of course, they have a far greater influx of others.
Interesting stats.

The pays is great for us in the Engineering field, and I'm only 4 hours from Destin.

People from Louisiana get pretty butthurt when you tell them this. Quite comical.

Food and family are overrated. I mean, if those 2 reasons are why you stay somewhere forever, I just don't get it. Travel for a while, see other places, you can always come home. People tell me, man I want to be close to family, yet they see them 3-4 times per year and live within 10 miles from one another. Expand your mind and make some good decisions and explore what's out there.

It honestly seems like a waste of time, I know I like it here and I pay 120$ for satellite television to show me what's out in the rest of the world, why bother? Besides are schools are some of the best in the world, and I want my kids to get smart.
