We all have 64 "sixth gen grandparents" (or 32 couples), 128 "seventh", 256 "eigth", etc. Out of such a large sampling, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in America (especially a white person) who does not have at least 1 ancestor who did not own at least 1 slave, whether from the North or South. It was even typical for poor farmers to own 1 or 2 slaves.

That he tried to hide this fact demonstrates just how much he doesn't understand.

No it wasn't. The range is typically between 15-30% of white families in south had slaves.

Served and forced or two different things. And please provide me with reliable source material that Nathan Bedford Forrest who led a massacre of surrendered Union black soldiers had blacks fighting for him. I'll sit back and wait...forever. Idiot.

Not claiming percentages. Demonstrating it was very common, which your stat shows.

I wouldn't consider typical or very common to be between about 1 in 4 people

Many whites such as Jefferson believed Native American were more intelligent and capable of being civilized. They viewed blacks as animalistic and in need of bondage for their own good.

Man, we don't give Jefferson enough credit. Dude was truly a smart man.

Not quite that many. If you go that far back you're eventually going to see the same people multiple times. I knew one couple who found out they were 9th cousins when they traced their family trees.

Of course, in Alabama you get a lot of people with only 6 great-grandparents instead of 8

I really think all this crap is to much. It has no bearing on him if an ancestor was a slave owner.

Should not you name be FOOLdeliver instead? Your school district should fire you. In history there were many exceptions to the rule. Forrest did in fact state that "there were no finer Confederates" when describing some blacks in his army. You should do some more research . I also admire your judgment of others who dare to question you.

Sounds like it is. I'm going back to what my original impression of him was when he first hit the scene, douchebag.

Prove it; you know just because your uncle Cletus said it doesn't mean it's true.

As far as dealing with students or others that disagree with me, I welcome enlightened debates. I will offer different interpretations of historical events. But some things are indisputable and non-negotiable. The holocaust did occur, Bush didn't cause 9/11, FDR did not willingly allow Pearl Harbor attack to happen, slavery was the central cause of the civil war, there's no reliable evidence to suggest there were groups of regular black confederate soldiers actively and voluntarily fighting in the war...etc

Some debates are worth having and in some cases allowances made that the opposing views have fair points. This is not one.

I have no Uncle Cletus . Why would you assume that? I will be able to cite the source later. Your condescending attitude would suggest that you are an arse.

That's absurd. Anderson Cooper had some of our family's dirty laundry aired on there. Can't help who you are related to.

Ok Foul, Google "gen Forrest on black troops". You will see several topics including one on 45 black Confederates. I will have to sign off now. I am on a plane leaving Miami after spending a week in the Virgin Islands. Spending money passed on to me by my slave owning ancestors. None named "Cletus".

I'm not sure what you want me to look at, other than sites about Forrest massacring black troops at Fort Pillow, his comments that blacks are only good as pieces of property and not soldiery and one neo-confederate blog entitled dixietruth or something.
