A good one, but Gutenberg changed the game. Only priests and few nobles could read at the time. The printing press changed it all. There would have been no Reformation without him.

Isaac Newton
He was the anchor point of history. Integrating ALL the prior knowledge streams into a real, workable science. Made our civilization possible.
Our calendar should begin with the publication of Principia Mathmatica

If he hadn't invented the printing press, assuming he really was first, someone else would have figured it out within a year

I'm having a hard time agreeing with any inventors. Yeah they invented cool things like the iPad mini or the printing press or gravity, but wouldn't these things have been invented by someone else?
I think we've gotta lean more "game changer" type folks. They need to be influential. Jesus, khan, hitter type people.
We (people posting on this board from 'merica) have so much of our life influenced by Jesus. How much (honest question) do people in the east associate with khan? Do they or is it possibly someone else?
Basically I've gotta think North America and Europe would be Jesus, other continents/cultures may be someone else.
Eta: or the guy that invented the wide mouth can

Don't exist without religious persecution, so GK's effort wouldn't have mattered much without Jesus' religion.

I heard Hans Gubenheimen really invented the first one but he forgot to print out assembly instructions for his model.

The fact that you are so confident about this statement makes me not want to even try.
Always amusing when people vacate an argument without presenting any evidence. The funniest part is that Jesus' effect on the history of human political events is actually unimportant (ETA: religiously) whether you are a Christian or not. The course of wars and nations and human anthropology doesn't matter at all to his message of personal salvation.
What great effect has Jesus had on the course of human events besides personal salvation, that compares with the conquering of Asia?

I'm all up in this thread, just not engaged with you. Also, there is no evidence either of us could present that would prove one way or the other that a similar substitute would exist for either Jesus or Khan.
I can produce endless evidence that more people believe that Jesus is irreplaceable, given that he was the son of God according to millions, but that evidence would of course be dismissed.

Yes I do because come on, the idea was sssssoooo simple and there are a lot of people who say it had been invented before him.

Constantine has more to do with Christianity today than Jesus. Christianity could have easily been a short lived cult if not for Constantine.
My other pick might be Copernicus. He gave us the heliocentric model of the universe.

Not necessarily that but how his teachings and followers affected other things. So much of western history draws a direct line to his teachings of people following his teachings.
Another honest question: khan conquered Asia. Cool. How did that resonate throughout history? Did people hundreds or thousands of years later wage was in his name? Other effects?

I will answer this, because it's a good question.
There is not much of anything that has happened since the creation of religion that was not done based on one or more of them.
So even GK, who either defeated people's or protected them based on some form of religious belief, protection from those with religious belief, or destruction of those with religious belief, is impacted by a ln originator of one of the most widely followed religions.

Gutenberg came up with the moveable type printing. You could reuse letters. Whoop Whoop.
