The New Orleans Saints have signed LB Anthony Spencer to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.
Spencer, an eight-year NFL veteran was originally a first round draft pick (26th overall) of the Dallas Cowboys in 2007 and has played both linebacker and defensive end as a professional. In his eight seasons in Dallas, he played in 104 games with 67 starts and has posted 497 tackles (317 solo), 33 sacks, 17 passes defensed, 12 forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.
In 2014, Spencer rebounded from a knee injury that sidelined him for all but one contest in 2013 and appeared in 13 games at defensive end, recording 25 stops (0.5 sacks, a pass defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery brought back for a touchdown. He appeared in both postseason contests and added two more tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Spencer enjoyed his most productive campaign in 2012, when he was selected to the Pro Bowl at linebacker and posted career-highs in tackles (106) and sacks (11), while adding two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

He's been irrelevant for long time.

Not a bad signing. I'm pretty sure it was on the cheap.

Anthony Spencer should be good fit for #Saints. Vet had his best years under Rob Ryan with #Cowboys. Assuming injury history drove $ down.

Not a bad "prove yourself" signing

I like it, we need OLB depth

Worth a cheap try for sure. Good depth at least

A once very good player with plenty experience both on the field and in this system signs a one year deal that could either see him make an impact with this team or even be cut if he isn't the same. What seems to be the problem? It's not as if they are claiming him to be a savior. There's a whole lot of silly on this thread

Good signing!.......Doesn't necessarily change our draft needs but does give us some flexibility

Looking more in to him he is also very good against the run. That is something we can definitely use more of.
He was only a part time players last year and still managed around 25 total pressures. If he can do that here in a part time role while also being stout against the run then it's a huge win.
This is very low risk very high reward. If it doesn't work so be it but if it does we got a steal.

Will Smith Part 2
I bet they ask him to play LB and cover in space or insurance for Galette suspension

I like it. Anything is an improvement from last year's D. If he doesn't work out, cut him, but give the man a chance.
