When Did Easter Become The Next Christmas?

Checking out Facebook this morning and there are many pictures of friends and acquaintances kids' Easter "baskets". There are baskets filled with candy, but there are also toys and gifts all over the place next to the baskets. Footballs, Nerf guns, dolls, light sabers, video games, legos, hot wheels, action figures, etc etc.
This isn't just one or two families either, but like 80% of my FB feed with kids.
When did Easter change? We always got baskets with lots of candy and maybe a stuffed animal. It wasn't a gift giving holiday second only to Christmas. This was also the case for everyone I knew.
Yes, as a kid I would have loved all the toys, but I gotta say, I'm beginning to wonder if kids these days are becoming extremely spoiled.
It really just seems like it's getting out of control.

I noticed that too! Some people have gone over the top!! When I was growing up, it was whatever could fit in a basket. Now it's a huge production!

I can remember as a kid getting a Nintendo for easter. I don't think it's near Christmas levels but people have always gave their kids gifts for easter

I would get candy and something like a model plane or car kit.

Just wait, kids will be getting toys and games along with the turkey soon enough.

When I was a kid I wiped my arse with pages out of the seats catalog

I saw a news report 10-15 years ago about Business trying to make Easter into Christmas II with present buying, ad campaigns etc... I guess it's working.

We spent most of our Easter's in Destin when I was growing up. Chocolate rabbits, candy, and pool/beach toys were the norm.

My Grandpa would give us hard boiled eggs. He was pretty excited about it. Can't imagine giving something like that to kids now.

I agree.
But in think the reason is not having spoiled kids, but rather parents who are addicted to bragging about what they got their children.
Social media is a giant bragging contest when it comes to children.
"I see your basket full of candy and I'll show you my basket of candy with a bike next to it."
At least I'm glad my wife and I don't have kids. And the more she sees this nonsense, the less she wants them.

All the gift giving holidays have gone overboard.

Social media is a disease that should be eradicated like any other, except it's easier to rid your self of social media.
