Yeah, they really needed to get Phish on board if they wanted to capture some of that stupid audiophile money.

Not really settling, the average person likely doesn't see the value of paying an extra $10 a month for something so minuscule

Jay-Z has proved he understands the business side of things. I give him credit for that.

Having said that. The last time I spent money for anything to do with music was in 1999.

So the offering shouldn't be out there? No other major player is doing it. My point is that it being something people may want could give incentives to other companies to offer it at their current price points. It's shortsighted to say "Oh, frick Jay Z and Kanye and these assholes for trying to trick us!" This was a service that was generating buzz before any celebrity ever was attached to the service.

So that's what that video was about... I guess I just won't listen to them. Don't listen to 90-80% of them anyways.

not really what I'm saying, but currently people don't see the value in paying for it because they haven't been exposed to it or just don't give a damn. So when faced with the decision 9/10 will go with the cheaper option.

If you truly want people to know what they're missing out on, you should likely include it in your $10 a month sub. Sort of like Netflix did early on with streaming, lose a little money in the early stages, prove there's a market for it, and then up your price.

This will serve to do one thing and one thing only:

1. Strengthen digital sales in iTunes.

Looks like people are not willing to pay double the price just so Hova could get even more royalty money after all. Quite the upset.

And Kanye has already peaced out.

sounds like they realize that the "we want to make more money" line is hurting them and actually giving publicity to Pandora/Spotify

so i'd imagine all of the artists will stop talking about Tidal because the focus on artists first and service second isn't working

How is that going to affect mobile data plans?

I saw a video breaking down what Tidal has to offer and according to that (FWIW) the average mobile data plan can handle 1-2 albums a month and then you're over.

So one will have to pay for the service, and most likely, pay more for their data plans? Sounds like a risky model based on that alone. I also think they may be overestimating the demand and underestimating the current, but more importantly future (as the market and technology adapts) ways around this service.
