Onions and hot dog technique in crawfish boils.

How does everybody boil their onions? Do you peel them then throw them in loose? Do you just drop the mesh bag they come in straight into the boil? Or do you peel them(the outer layer) and place them into a boil bag?
What is everybody's technique with hotdogs? When do you put them in? Do you out them in loosely or in a boil bag?

I prefer little smokies to hot dogs
Actually never seen hot dogs. But the little smokies are my favorite
Sorry I don't know the answer. Just making a suggestion

Onions cook a lot better if you cut them in half
I haven't done hot dogs but I imagine during soaking is enough to heat them just fine

I quarter my onions. I have never used or had hot dogs in a boil. I like my hot dogs grilled crisp. I only use a good sausage in boils. My favorite add-in is mushrooms and halved garlic heads to squeeze on my potatoes.

I peel and score the onions and they go in right after the seasoning and the lemon, right before the garlic and potatoes, so right after i light the burner.
I can't remember doing hot dogs myself but I add smoked sausage at flameout, loose, and let it soak with the crawfish. I also add the artichoke at this time. I do not add ice to the water so they soak 20-30 minutes in hot water.

Do they come apart everywhere? When exactly do you put them in? Right after potatoes?

I put the onions, potatoes and garlic heads in the pot as I first heat it. Once we're at a rolling boil, in go the crawfish. The onions, garlic and potatoes will be perfectly done after the soak.

Cut large onions in half. Smaller onions I will leave whole and cut both ends off.
You should try throwing a bag of pearl onions in the pot. They are awesome and not as messy to eat as the large yellow onions.

Take them out of bag and cut them loose. I throw them in from the start.
Hot dogs I usually put in right before crawfish. You don't want to cook those long at all. And loosely. They're fine to be mixed in. I actually prefer it

Onions go in first with the potatoes and corn with enough seasoning to make them taste good, but not so much to blister the lining of your mouth. After they give their flavor to the boiling liquid, then the seasoning needed to make the crawfish tasty is added and the crawfish go into the hot tub.
The hotdogs go on the grill about 24 hours after the crawfish go into the pot.

This, but we always buy small onions. We also drop bags of new potatoes still in the mesh bag. Easy peasy.
