If you want to pin THIS loss on the players, I would not argue with you necessarily. However, this type of loss has happened over & over again, all season long. That does fall on Coach Jone's shoulders. As for the lack of depth, it comes down to 2 questions: are the players sitting on the bench all season long simply not good enough for SEC play? Or if they are, why haven't they been coached up to improve? Again, either one falls on Coach Jones's shoulders.

Jones can be questioned plenty this year, but not last night. We had the game won...Johnny's out of eligibility, he can't shoot free throws for them.

Just like the football team - win games on talent alone.

Tired is a piss poor excuse for missing that many free throws.
They are worn out because they've been playing 35+ minutes a game all season. FTs have become a progressive problem as the year has gone along, early on we were making them.
No. Fatigue for college players isn't nearly the same as for pro players. College players have young legs and play a 30 game schedule at a rate of 2 games per week. The NBA grind is 82 games at 3 or 4 per week.
Stop using fatigue as an excuse for college players.

I'll say it again, it's obvious most of you have never been a manager. You're responsible for everything your staff does or does not do. Same thing applies here. Coaches get paid big bucks and get credit for wins. They also are responsible for losses. All of them.

You could practice shooting free throws every single day for 5 hours straight and it's not going to change how your body feels and performs in that moment.

No one expects that, but come on look at some of the teams that won this weekend already Dayton, Oregon, San Diego St., UAB, Georgia St. Do those teams have 2 NBA type players on their teams? I'll give Jones a pass for the first year, but come on the last two years have been disappointments. Last year he had JOB and shat the bed as well.

No, we actually didn't have the game won. We actually had the game slipping away possession after possession for the last 10 minutes of the game. Great game time coaches would've called a few timeouts, and settled down the team. On top of that, a coach like Izzo or K. Would've run a play out of timeout while the team was on a cold streak to get the ball into our hottest players hands (martin) near the basket.

what about call a TO for them and coach them up?

This was mostly on Jones. The players act as if they could care at all to concentrate when they are shooting free throws, especially when they have a cold spell and missed a few prior.
He does not sub correctly. At 8-9 minute mark he should have put in Bridgewater and Epps and sat the 2 M's at the corner of the bench to rest them and pep them up!!!
Then insert them back after 2-3 minutes rest. Then call a timeout when a run is in the making from the other side to break the momentum of the run and to re-focus his team, change defenses, tell them to run a better offense, set plays, whatever!! He does not know how to do this.
3 timeouts is like 6 minutes rest. He could have called them back to back to back (instead of leaving themmin his pocket) to rest the starting five. That plus the rest minutes I mention above for the 2 M's, hell they could have taken a 12 minute power nap in the locker room.
The point is the top 5 players he plays too many minutes by wanting them on the floor late could have gotten 6-10 minutes of rest below the 10 minute mark, and still had a nice lead to protect but JJ does not know how to utilize a bench nor time outs.... And thats a shame for a position as head BB coach at LSU...Inexcusable
Also, our guys may be a bit talented but they are not smart enough to settle each other down. There is no leader out there...

Jones is a terrible coach. Period. That's it. It doesn't matter what kind of talent he gets here, he will ALWAYS get out coached in big games. He is a bad, bad coach. I've seen enough. He has made no effort to improve on his deficiencies. So frick him. He does not and never will have the ability to coach at this level.

We're not expected to have that, but if our big guys are so tired, please explain to me why Brian Bridgewater can play 13 minutes against Arkansas (a 5 seed) in the most hostile environment LSU played in this year, but didn't play 1 second in the NC State game? He scored a basket, grabbed a few rebounds and played hard on D against Arkansas and scored 9 points in 16 minutes against aTm. He could have given one of our big guys just a quick rest and they might have had enough energy to make one field goal in the final 10 minutes. Hell, maybe Bridgewater would have hit the field goal.
If fatigue is that much of an issue, the coaching staff definitely didn't help the situation.

So your conclusion is because college players play less than NBA players there's no way there can be any fatigue for them, even if they play 36-37 minutes a game twice a week (on top of practice)? How do you explain Mickey completely losing it the last month of this season? Looked like a pretty tired player to me.
If fatigue is not a factor for any college player, why do coaches like Calipari not play their best players 36-37 minutes a game?

X's and O's would be nice. Coach would have to relinquish some authority and I do not foresee it happening.
free throw coach is a must.

Now either you think that Jones is the smartest guy in the tournament, has the least talent of any team in the tournament (which would also make him the smartest), or he is the least effective coach in utilizing his bench in the tournament.
