I think you're misconceiving prayer as someone kneeling by their bedside saying "God, do I go with deal A or B?"

Is that not what 99% of people do when they pray?

I do a hour a week in silent prayer in the Adoration chapel. Some of my best ideas and thoughts come during that time.

That's awesome. but that's called quiet time. And having a good think. I do that like every other day out on the dock behind my house

You should ask for advice by stating that you are a sad, hurt, bitter atheist who has a problem you are unable to solve by yourself and I am sure you will get the advice you are looking for.

Then again, someone with faith will still likely see the real answer and guide you to prayer and scripture.

Wife and I went through fertility treatments to conceive if I had a $1 for every person that told us "Relax and it'll happen" I would have had enough to cover all of our medical expenses.

Baby is due in about a week

Subtle troll rant about faith that got some bites.

6/10. Didn't get enough bites and became clear troll early.

Not very practical advice

Let me ask you this. Lets say im a practicing Druid. And im a damn nice guy and dependable friend. You come to me and say "man, my wife is leaving me. Im beside myself with grief. What should I do buddy"

"Well bleeding purple, clearly you need to strip butt naked, climb a palm tree during a full moon, and ask Merlin for guidance"

Would you consider I gave you sound advice?

The non-religious equivalent is "listen to your heart" or "just do what you think is best."

They're all different ways of saying "I completely checked out while you were talking because I don't really care.

What's more annoying is when they act like they have a suggestion and then just start talking about some irrelevant thing that's interesting to them.

Exactly. Idk why the religious people in this thread cant admit this instead of calling me a miserable dickhead :(

People mean well when they say "pray about it" but it is pretty useless advice.

Not really advice, but "call me if you need anything" grinds my gears. They don't expect you to call, and would be surprised and uncomfortable if you did.

If you have faith prayer is very much a valid way of coping. It doesn't mean you pray and then just sit and wait for something to happen.

If that's the best advice you could come up with I couldn't fault you for trying. Especially if I knew you were a Druid.
