Nah man. If said badly I can say it's badly said but I really do believe a lot of people really know the answer to their questions. Many of the questions I ask on here i already know and that's a constant conversation piece among my social group. It's just not framed as being douchey.

What I believe is irrelevant. No need to be a crybaby fig about it. Even religious people possess problem solving abilities I assume. Its a lazy arse answer at best What could possibly be the outcome of a prayer. God gonna send a pigeon to shite on your windshield and spell out the answer? Normally when an adult asks for advice it means they have thought it through and come to an impasse
You're being too literal about it. Consider it meditation. Opening your mind to a "higher power". Whatever power that is to you. The answer is still within you and it's still going to take effort on your part, but perhaps the answer to the prayer is inspiration. And idea or lucidity of thought.

So ask someone else that doesn't pray for their advice and move on. It shouldn't be this difficult.

guidance or recommendations concerning prudent future action, typically given by someone regarded as knowledgeable or authoritative.
I understand fully the benefit of meditation when youre stressed and looking for answers in life. Occasionally clearing your head will help you readdress a problem and find resolution on your own
My interpretation of what people are saying most of the time is "ask god what you should do". Well, apparently god has surrounded me with idiots who are of no value when I have a problem

I don't see it as condescending though. Useless? Maybe, but not condescending. Yeah, I'd be pissed if I asked my lawyer or CPA for advice and he told me to pray for his only answer.

That's a relief. There was a few times I felt like we "bonded" in old threads. For a minute, I was afraid I had an occult case of the ghey.

Not to be religious but for me it's always been the "God doesn't give you more than you can handle" words of wisdom.
I have no idea what His idea of enough and mine are. Thanks for the super duper pick me up.

Whenever you're telling someone about a problem and they're like, "Hey man, it is what it is."
Well yeah. No fricking shite, retard.

It's not advice. Prayer is not a rational response to real life issues. If it were thered be no lawyers, psychologists, or consultants
Stop asking for advice and just go see a lawyer, psychologist or consultant whenever you have a problem.

Dont get me started on that one.People do insane shite every day because they had more than they could handle
Stressed out and had a heart attack? definitely was more than you could handle
Hung yourself in the garage with weedeater string ? obviously more than you could handle
Snapped after seeing your mom get raped and blew a guys brains off? way more than you could handle
The proof is infinite that that saying is total bullshite

Prayer is not simply meditation.
It is direct and promised communication with God.
It is in fact, excellent guidance and recommendation concerning prudent future action for all persons. Believers just tend to accept it as such where as non believers may find it useless.
The real question you should ask yourself is why, if you are a non believer, you choose to ask for advice from believers? Why would you expect them to answer in anyway other than from their faith and experience?
If it really makes you so angry, and you feel so put out by the advice, why are you even friends with believers?

And to your original question:
the worst advice you can get when struggling with a real life issue falls into the category of ignoring the issue or replacing the emotion with one of instant gratification.
"Screw it, let's get drunk"
"You need to mellow, here's some bud"
"you just need to get laid"
"A new pair of shoes will make it all better"
etc.

I think you're misconceiving prayer as someone kneeling by their bedside saying "God, do I go with deal A or B?" vs. setting aside a quiet time for reflection on your past decisions related to the issues, thinking about its effects, etc. without haste.
I do a hour a week in silent prayer in the Adoration chapel. Some of my best ideas and thoughts come during that time.

No its not. Communication is the exchange of information and ideas. thats not whats happening there
quote:
why, if you are a non believer, you choose to ask for advice from believers?
I dont ask people for their spiritual credentials before I ask a question. maybe I should start. you make a good point. apparently it would cut down on useless advice dramatically
quote:
Why would you expect them to answer in anyway other than from their faith and experience?
Well. because if I waste my time asking for a suggestion i assume they possess the mental faculties to help me troubleshoot an actual grown up issue. and not tell me to go grab a ouija board or sacrifice a goat
quote:
If it really makes you so angry, and you feel so put out by the advice, why are you even friends with believers?
It's not a lifelong resentment, its just irritating
Prayer may do absolute wonders for your well being. But its not practical advice to give anyone. Unless the problem is of a spiritual nature. Then sure, pray till your knees have carpet tunnel syndrome. but not for everyday issues

See, I'm a big proponent of this as advice.. Always seems to work out for me.
