I've got a bad boy. Has been pretty good to me.
Cheap price.
Swap to a huge automotive filter on the motor and run 0w40 in it. The damned thing will pur all day. Cut 2.5 acres twice a week during grass season.

I have been using the same Dixie Chopper for the past eleven years and like it. Make sure you buy something you can get service on. Also lots of the big names make different levels of mowers from commercial all the way down to residential. Dixie Chopper is one of them. My two cents.

Does anyone know about the hustler's that Lowes and home depot are selling now? Seems like a good deal with a fabricated deck and Kawasaki engine. I've read that Hustler hasnt sacrificed much compared to their commercial models.
54" for $2999 is crazy, IF it's actually well built.

Check the grease fitting count and see what size Kawasaki. Also see off it has independent hydros or a single pump.
A lot of the smaller ones have sealed everything rather than greasable. A pain in the rear after three years of use.
Try and lift the front of the mower with one hand, if you can do it, walk away. A good deck alone weighs 80lbs or more.
Also, given that you're looking at the larger size, make sure they don't stick you with mulching blades instead of General use.

I used to run two hustlers and two skags.
I'm really leaning towards that orange 61" sob.
Just a badass lawn mower.
To me it's was twice the machine hustler was.

Kubota fan here, but I've run the Scag and its a great machine. Neighbor has a Hustler and runs the shite out of it. Seems to do well enough.
Regardless, I wouldn't buy anything that isn't a commercial grade mower unless you have a small lot and only mow sparingly. I've yet to talk to anyone who bought a mower- regardless of mfg.- from a box store that didn't bitch/complain about some aspect of the machine.

If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't get rear discharge but that's the only thing I'd change.

That little ZG I have is a tank. I've run the shite out of it and its done extremely well. Definitely worth the money for the commercial grade mowers IMO.

I just bought one. It's the same raptor model that they sell at all Hustler dealers. I used a 10% off coupon on my 42", and ended up paying only $2500!!! Can't beat that price for a 21.5hp kawasaki and a welded deck.

I use those 10% coupon's on almost everything I buy from lowes.

I bought the Hustler Raptor SD at my local shop because of the service agreement. I love it! Got the 54", wish I had got the 60". Cutting 2.5 acres.

i have a 60" Ferris with 24hp yanmar diesel. The ride quality and suspension beats everything out there imo. Like a cadillac

I assume you mean riding and not walk behind or stand up ride behind ZT or ZTR mowers.
In any of those cases, 60" or 61" Gravely is still the best. USA built. Since 1916. Kawasaki motor (some Kohler motors available, but mostly Kawasaki). Dual rear wheel Hydro Gear transaxles. Solid welded steel 3 blade deck. No, I am not a Gravely salesman. I do have a Gravely ZT HD60 riding mower ($5,100 + add tax), which is their best (top of the line) non-commercial riding lawnmower. Will cut lawn, rose bushes, small trees, concrete, small portable buildings...
More expensive, though. You get what you pay for, IMO.
I had a Dixon ZTR for over 20 years. Bought in 1989 for $6,000 (add tax). So I am no greenhorn with ZT or ZTR riding mowers...
I may not be your best source for "best deal", however. I just placed my factory order yesterday for my 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat 707 HP $70,000+ B5 Blue fully loaded auto. So, while I (of course) went for the best deal in the Houston area, I don't always go for only the best deal...

Well, why don't you still have them? Didn't they last? Did you just get tired of them? Gravely ZTRs would still be with you. Check out various site's test report ratings of Gravely vs. other brands on Google or other search sites. Dixon is still a good brand. They have just priced themselves out of the market (IMO) for what they currently offer.

I've had a scag tiger cub 48" deck for about 9 years now, and haven't had to put it in the shop once. Only use it to cut the house now, but my brother used it when he was in high school to mow yards(about 25 yards), and I took over his yards once I got in high school. We keep it greased, change the oil, and change the blades regularly, and she runs like a champ, only had to change the belt for the blades once, which was super easy.
Also if you are willing to spend the money, Dixie Chopper is an awesome mower. I have heard good things about grasshopper as well.

Gravely 52" here. Had her since 2008. Ran the shite out of her until 2014 when I sold my lawn service. Minor repairs and what not. NOT invincible but probably cuz of the people I let run it. FWIW I would buy another.
Pops just bought brand new 48" commercial gravely Damn thing pops wheelies Thing is badarse. I steal it whenever I can.
