I used to get this at either the Mexican market on Florida or Whole Foods. I've been to Whole Foods 4 times now and they did not have any.

And although i have gotten it a few times from the Mexican place the last time i went the same guy who sold it to me the last few times acted like he didn't know what i was talking about.

any other places in the area sell pork belly?

You must learn to request it in Spanish. They hate whiteys there and forget all English when I approach the meat counter.

it was the same guy who sold it to me 3 times before. this time he just kept shaking his head and bringing out other cuts to show me.. i even pointed at the bacon and said "pork belly to make bacon"

he said "that's bacon". i just walked out.

Had pork belly yesterday at Whole Foods. If you don't see any in the case, just ask. They usually have some in the back, since they make in house bacon

Whole Foods has been odd lately. I mentioned here that they didn't have tri tip the last time I was there and someone here called them out and said that they simply didn't want to cut any. The employee mentioned that I need to place an order merely a day in advance. What do they do, overnight it from another location?

Last time I tried that I ended up having to explain to the "butcher" what pork belly was...

I have gotten it at Chris' Specialty Meats. If they do have it, then it is frozen but the price wasnt bad

May have to try out that La Telienda or whatever.

You must not be doing it right because I've always gotten it at LaMorenita and I just asked the guy 10 minutes ago at Whole Foods and he asked me if I wanted a whole belly or a portion.

is there another way other than walking up to the counter telling the person i'd like to buy some pork belly .Watching them walk over to the butcher and ask and then come back and tell me they don't have any?

Ask for Charlie at Whole Foods. Call ahead in case they need some extra time to cut it.

thanks for the suggestions. making home made bacon would be a lot more enjoyable if finding pork belly wasn't such a challenge.

Last time I went to whole foods they were out also. I got tired of La Morenita, used to buy there a lot. I bought two at Scallain's about two weeks ago, $2.99/lb. (not sure I'd buy anything out of their meat case). Rouses say they carry it but every time I call their out. I may try the oriental market next time. Any A.G. market can get them but they want you to buy a case which is 4/5 bellies.

i wouldn't be totally against this if it would keep me from having to search all over BR for it.

Calandro's and LeBlanc's will order them for you. I'd normally be willing to split one with you buy I just got two and my freezer is full.
