Okay, last year was weird and we didn't make it to NO except once and then went elsewhere, but I loved Stella's and it's closed. what happened? any similar places in the FQ--best fried oysters i ever had. suggestions? brunch kind of thing.

Stella!, not Stella's. Apologies, pet peeve.
Now with that out of the way: per your first question, it closed abruptly under odd circumstance. I believe the owner was in severe financial trouble .. doing things like driving a Ferrari while not being able to pay his staff. Or some such nonsense.
Suggestion: if you like the atmosphere, location and are a fan of oysters in different formats look no further than Restaurant R'evolution.

Stanley's and Luke's both do a good brunch.

Thanks. Always had to wait so I was surprised at STELLA!'s closing. Does commander's stii have their lunch specials? Thanks again.
We were going to name our puppy Stella. Figured we'd be yelling a lot.

I generally get his point. I just always hated the name with the stupid exclamation point of this place so much, that I'm happy to let the possessive deal slide with it.
Fortunately, I guess, it's not something we have to deal with much either way anymore with it.

I always thought it was just silly.
Possessives with restaurants which are not possessive in name bothers me a bit, but adding the exclamation point to Stella was just so ridiculous in my mind.
OP, it closed under some strange circumstances that didn't do much for the reputation of the chef/owner.

Like Rohan said, the guy was spending money frivolously but couldn't pay his employees. Complete dick and egomaniac by all accounts.

Stella was supposedly kept afloat by Stanley for a long time. The cost of running a kitchen of that caliber is always a nice amount of money. He was basically running in the possibility of gaining Michelin status for the restaurant and the profitability only coming second to the success viewed of the restaurant. The paint factory and the second Stanley location at the race ground didn't help either as well as his aforementioned habits of living such a lavish lifestyle.

That fundraiser Boswell was trying to hold allegedly to provide money to the staff he fired was a complete bust after he got hammered over it. That was something else.

Has there ever even been serous talk of Michelin issuing a New Orleans Guide?

I remember a $20k bottle of wine was on the menu. The waitress said if you bought it streamers would fall from the ceiling. Lol.
The best service I've ever experienced. Went for my birthday. We walked in and they already knew who I was and wish me a happy birthday. Staff had great communication. Sad Stella is gone.

are you associated with the infamous babycakes?

I agree, the service was Stellar. Food though, while great, wasn't quite good enough in my estimate to justify the astronomical prices. And the caviar menu that started at like $500 was a joke.
